MRS. MELISSA SIMPHER

Graduated from the University of South Florida with a BA, emphasis in History.
Graduated from Central Florida University with an MA, Social Science
Education, and am currently worked towards another Masters in Special
Education, Gifted.

Moved two years ago from southwest Florida to Abita Springs, where I had
taught in Lee County Schools for 7 years. I have taught 6th Grade World
History (gifted and advanced), 7th Grade World Geography (gifted, advanced
and reg. ed.), and 8th Grade U.S. History (gifted, advanced, and reg. ed.,
ESE and ESL), and last two years 9th grade gifted, honors and reg. ed.
Civics/Free Enterprise, 10th grade gifted World History.

To allow students to experience history.

To engage all students in a diverse classroom, working cooperatively to
experience, understand and connect with important concepts of Civics and
World History. In my classroom I will use instructional practices that allow
students to implement multiple intelligences to “experience” history. In
addition, students will be using a wide variety of primary sources, as well
as other classroom resources to help them understand the past and form their
own perspectives of our history through critical thinking. Students will be
involved in experiential, group problem solving, visual discovery, and skill
building activities (emphasis in reading strategies). Cross curriculum is
implemented so that we will use Reading, Language Arts, Math and Science
throughout our discovery of history.
