Vertie (Pansy) Tate, Most of the years of my teaching career have been
happily spent with 4th graders at PVMS where I currently teach fifth grade.
Prior to this teaching experience, I taught 7th and 8th grades at William
Pitcher Jr. High for 8 years.

My desire or calling (as I’ve been told) to enter the teaching field came to
fruition when I entered Southeastern University as a non-traditional student
and earned a B.S. degree in Elementary Teaching. A short time later I
received a Master of Ed. Degree in Administration & Supervision from UNO and
then returned to Southeastern to complete additional credits for a Plus
30. At this point in time, I began to serve an Internship at the University
of Tennennesse at Chatnooga and received certification in Visual Arts.
I have training in LASip Mathematics, LATAP and LATEP for teacher mentoring
and Supervising.

After receiving certification to teach Elementary Grades in the states of
Georgia, Mississippi, and Tennennesse, I’ve chosen to remain in the St.
Tammany Parish School System where I’ve had the distinct pleasure to serve as
a teacher advocate for my fellow teachers since 1983. I’ve been chosen as a
Delegate to the State Conventions for both LAE and the St. Tammany Federation
of Teachers. I’ve also served on committees to lobby the LA Legislature for
teacher benefits. I have recently become a member of the Associated
Professional Educators of Louisiana (A+PEL).

While I continue my tenure as teacher advocate, my main focus is to educate
and nuture my students so that they reach their highest potentials. While
instilling in them the desire to seek knowledge and to recognize the beauty
of life and appreciate the world around them, I value the opportunity to have
a small role in the molding of their lives knowing that they will eventually
become the strength of our nation. To reiterate, I take pride in being a
teacher and have truly enjoyed many years of rewarding experiences in this
profession.
