Dear Parents,

Welcome to Kindergarten! My name is Christy Ross, and I will be your
child’s teacher this year. We will be in Room 1106 in the Red Hall.
Kindergarten is full of new and fun experiences. This is your child’s first
year in Elementary School, and this means that your child is ready to learn
new skills and take on new responsibilities!
The reading program in Kindergarten is packed with wonderful stories,
poetry, and songs. Through quality literature, your child will be introduced
to the joy of reading and writing. Daily journal writing and quiet reading
will help your child become independent readers and writers.
The math program includes many hands-on activities such as sorting,
counting, comparing, graphing, and measuring. Your child will learn all
about patterns, how to write numerals and read number words, how to tell time
to the hour, how to recognize and count coins, and the fundamentals of
addition and subtraction.
These are just a few of the many concepts and critical thinking
activities your child will take on this year. The children will have lots of
opportunities to build friendships through social activities such as outdoor
play, field trips, activities with other classes, and celebrations throughout
the year.

Let me tell you a little about myself:
I received a B.A. in Early Childhood Education from the University of
New Orleans. I am certified to teach Nursery School through Eighth Grade
with a specialty in Early Childhood. I have also received my Master’s Degree
in Early Childhood with a minor in Special Education. I have 15 years of
teaching experience in Early Childhood. In 2004, I earned National Board
Certification.
I have been married for almost 12 years to my husband, Scott, and we
have 2 children: Christian is a second grader at PES this year and Julia
will be 3 in March. Both of us are from Metairie, and we decided to make our
home here in Mandeville.

I am excited about our fun and educational year ahead, and I look
forward to getting to know your child.

							Sincerely,

							Christy Ross
