Class News

August 22, 2011

Dear Parents,

The T-1 class will be starting homework this week with the backpack skills
kit. Each backpack kit contains a book, an activity booklet, and some
manipulative or other papers. Some of the back packs contain a journal.
Follow the directions in the activity booklet. Each night do one activity
with your child. By Friday all the activities should be done. If journal
writing is one of the activities please allow your child to do the writing.
You can help them decide what to write and help with spelling. Please have
them use only one page in the journals.
These backpack kits cover a wide range of skills that children at this age
need to become familiar with. Doing the activities with someone will help
build confidence and eventually your child may want to do some of the
activities on their own.
The whole backpack and its content must be returned every Friday. They are
rotated each week, so each student will get a new backpack kit each week.
Please enjoy these backpack kits and have fun doing the activities with your
children.
If you have any questions please call, email, or write me a note in the
TakeHome/Bring Back folders.
Thank you for your help with your child’s homework.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Bloodworth

Dear Parents,

Welcome to Pontchartrain Elementary. I’m looking forward to a great year with
your child. We will learn well and have fun doing it. Following is some
information that you may find helpful in making your child’s year in
Transitional first grade (T-1) run smoothly.

RULES

Our classroom rules as posted in our room are:

Listen when others are talking

Follow directions

Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself

Show respect for school and personal property

Work and play in a safe manner.

We will be reviewing what these rules mean and how they help our class run
smoothly. Please talk to your child about the importance of following these
rules. We will also be going over and learning our many classroom routines
and procedures in the next couple of weeks. Ask your child about them each
day.

TAKE HOME FOLDERS

I will be sending home a daily “Take Home Bring Back” folder each day. Notes,
letters, and permission slips will be sent home in the “Take Home Bring Back”
folder. Please check the folders every night to keep up with what is going on
in your child’s class. Take home folders are to be brought back and forth to
school EVERYDAY.

NOTES, MONEY, ETC. FROM HOME

If you send notes, lunch money, or any school correspondence to school please
place it in the inside pocket of the take home folder. LUNCH MONEY should be
sent in an envelope with your child’s name, lunch card number, and my name on
it. Lunch card numbers are on the inside of the “Take Home Bring Back” folder.

WEEKLY OVERVIEW

A weekly overview will be coming home with your child every Monday. On it you
will find short notes and information about up coming events and news about
our class. This newsletter can remain at home for your information. You may
also access this information via our class web site on
http.//teacherweb.com/LA/PontchartrainElementary/JoAnnBloodworth.

HOMEWORK

Homework will consist of a take home backpack that the student will keep for
a week.In the backpack will be activities covering different subjects that
the whole family can do and help with. These are meant to be a fun learning
experience for your child. Please have fun with them and your child will
learn a lot.

 LEARNING FROM OTHERS

In our T-1 class this year I would like to have as many people( parents,
grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc.) come to our class to share a
specialty of theirs. A specialty could be the job Dad does, the quilts
Grandma makes, or the special cookie recipe mom makes (YUM!). T-1 children
learn in many ways. Watching, listening, and doing things with other sources
other than the teacher is one of the ways. Please let me know what you might
like to share and we will schedule you in.

OPEN HOUSE/COMMUNICATION

Open House will be Wednesday, August 16 at 6:30PM. I am looking forward to
meeting you then. Please feel free to visit the class anytime. Our room
number is 1202. Always obtain an office pass before you come to the
classroom. If you need to communicate with me about your child you may email
me at joann.bloodworth@stpsb.org. If a conference is needed please
communicate this either through my email address or the student teacher
communication sheets in your child's take home/bring back folder. I will
contact you to set up a conference time.Thank you for your cooperation and
help with you child. If we both work together the effort will show in your
child.

Sincerely,

JoAnn Bloodworth
