I have been teaching for 29 years. In the past I have taught Special Education
classes, transitional first, first, and second grade. I taught first grade for
seventeen years. This year I will continue to teach the wonderful T-1
students of Pontchartrain Elementary.
I am also a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a hiker/backpacker, and a lover of
the outdoors.
My husband Pat loves to fish and I love to eat fish, so occasionally I go
with him to try and catch fish. He also loves to ride his motorcycle on good
weather days. I tag along with him and a few of our cycling friends and
enjoy the local country side.
My son Chad is one of my hiking buddies. Him and I will begin bringing my
grandchildren, Hannah Grace who is 6 and Sophia who is 3 with us on a
backpacking trip very soon. My daughter-in-law Beth does not like
backpacking, but we do manage to get her on an occasional camping trip with
us every once and a while. They presently live in Greensboro, NC and we visit
them as often as we can. I am estatic with the new news that they will be
moving back to the Gulfshore area in four mounths. I will only be 3 hours
away from my granddaughters!
My daughter Rachael is beginning her fourth year at UNO and lives in New
Orleans. She has learned to love the city that I grew up in and love as well.
I am thrilled to visit her and stomp around my old stomping grounds.
One of my biggest goals in life is to finish the Appalachian Trail, which
stretches from Georgia to Maine. I have hiked three hundred or so miles of
the 2236 mile trail. Only 1900 more miles to go!
I enjoy being with the transitional first grade students. They keep me young
and make my life interesting. It is wonderful to see the world through their
eyes. It is my job to take these T-1 students and prepare them for first
grade while also giving them a year to grow and develope so they will be the
best first graders ever when they move on. Part of my job is also to teach
them to become better students and people overall. We accomplish
these goals together over the nine months course of the school year. At the
end of the school year we are fast friends and are sad to let each other go.
But we do and they grow to become wonderful people who I get to see over and
over. I have one of the best jobs in the world, watching children grow
everyday!
