Dear Parents,

 The following is an overview of what I plan to cover the week of

February 13-17, 2012 with your child:

LANGUAGE ARTS

LETTERS:

Introduce “K-k”. Logon to www.starfall.com for letter activities.  

COLOR & COLOR WORDS:

Review “red, blue, yellow, green, orange, purple, brown, black, white, pink, & gray”.

SIGHT VOCABULARY—High Frequency Word(s):

Introduce “little & said”. Review “I, can, we, the, like, a, see, go, to, have, is, play, are, for, you, this, do, and, & what”.

TEXT CONNECTION BOOK LIST—Used in the Classroom:

Oak Trees, Read Aloud Anthology, Big Book of Explorations, & Sing, Talk and Rhyme Chart

MATH

Review numbers “0 - 20” and their number words. Continue money (coins: penny, nickel, dime, & quarter). We will also continue addition. Continue with calendar. Logon on to www.starfall.com for calendar activities. Review circle, triangle, square, rectangle, pentagon, hexagon, octagon, rhombus, & oval. We have been counting by 1’s, 2’s, 5’s, & 10’s to 100. 

Social Living / Science:

We will begin our “Plants” unit; begin the theme ”How Trees Grow”; and discuss “Louisiana”, “Mardi Gras”, & “Presidents”.

Other Information:

 There will be no “After-School-Care” on Friday, 2/17/12.

 My class will exchange Valentine’s Day Cards on Tuesday, 2/14/12. This is not mandatory.

 Kindergarten Progress Reports were sent home on Friday, 1/6/12 and are yours to keep. Please sign and return the Progress Report Envelope, as soon as possible.

 Mardi Gras will be here soon. The PES Mardi Gras K-Ball is scheduled for 9:30 AM on Wednesday, 2/15/12Dress clothes are requested for the K-Ball. My Kindergarten students will participate in the PES parade on Friday, 2/17/12 as Martians. I am asking that your child dress in a green t-shirt and blue jeans for the parade. The remainder of the parade attire will be provided.

 Please do not remove the Behavior Calendar from your child’s folder. It must be signed and returned at the end of the month.

 Your child has checked out a library book. Please keep it in his/her backpack when not in use, so that the book will be available at school when needed.

Homework: Homework is due on Friday.

SPECIAL NOTE: The “I Think I Can” (ITIC) program  is in progress.  It is a very worthwhile program and  I would like to get 100% participation if possible! Your child must participate in at least 5 of the 8 weeks of the program in order to attend the PES Celebration. The ITIC Assignment is due every Monday.
