Reading:  "Dig, Wait, Listen"
              Skill:  What is the Author's Purpose for writing?
No reading test this week, but we will cover the skills that go with the story.
Grammar:  Pronouns and Capitalization in Book Titles
Spelling:  Their words this week will be spelled with ar.
Math:    Chapter 8:  Time, Data, and Graphs (continued)
Please continue to work with your children on telling time.  I will be giving the students a quiz on telling time by the end of the week.  The students will also have a quiz on "Math You Should Know" facts (i.e., there are 7 days in a week, 12 months in a year, etc.)  Look for this study guide to come home on Monday.
Science:  We will finish up our chapter on weather by Wednesday.  This week we will also start our Egg Hatching Project!!!  We will put our eggs in the incubator this week.  The incubation period is 21 days.  More details to follow.
Social Studies:  We have a lot going on this week!  We will discuss some history and traditions associated with Mardi Gras, and we will begin our study of some famous Presidents in preparation for Presidents' Day on the 20th.  We will be out of school on that date, so our studies will continue after the Mardi Gras break.

Notes/Reminders:
1.  Orpheus Parade on Friday, Feb. 17th.  No aftercare for students.
2.  Our 2nd Grade Mardi Gras ball is on Thursday, Feb. 16th at 2 P.M.  The whole-school PES parade will be held on Friday, Feb. 17th at 2 P.M.  
3.  Students are asked to bring in a decorated shoebox for Valentine's 
Day.  If you don't have a box at home, any kind of "container" will do - it could even be made out of construction paper.  They will be exchanging valentines.  We have 20 students.  You do not have to put each child's name on the envelopes.
