I am originally from Michigan, but have lived down here for so long, I now
consider myself a 'tranplanted' Louisianian. I did my undergraduate work at
Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo (yes, there really is a town of that
name) and later did my graduate work at the University of New Orleans.
I hold a B.A. in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Early Childhood.
This means I am certified to teach in grades Pre-K through 5 in the state of
Louisiana. My Master's Degree is in Special Education with an emphasis in
Gifted, which allows me to hold a position in the Gifted Program. I am proud
to be a National Board Certified Teacher as a Early Childhood Generalist.
This is a recognized National Program for Highly Qualified Teachers.
I have taught in many interesting places, including the Cheyenne River
Reservation in South Dakota, Millaudon Middle School in St. Bernard, Dibert
Elementary School in Orleans, and Arden Cahill Academy in Algiers.
My favorite grade to teach is Third Grade. I think this is because of my
experience in Third Grade as a child. My teacher, Mrs. Mayhan, was a kind and
loving teacher. She was helpful and patient and I LOVED Third Grade! I want
your child to have that same feeling about this year.
This statement sums up my philosphy on life. I believe when we
face day to day living, we need to see the positive side of things . . . when
we can't, we need to take a step back . . . take a few breaths . . . and
readjust our perspective. Hopefully, this is reflected in my teaching and in
my classroom.
