Week of February 13, 2012

Language Arts/ Math  

This week we will learn about the history of Valentine’s Day and the traditions associated with it.   Our letter of focus will beKkand its sound. The high frequency words of focus will belittleandsaid.We will also focus on the rhyming –it, -ip, and –id “word families”. The grammar focus will be describing words, the writing focus will be sentences, and the comprehension skills will be sequencing events. Our math focus will addition and subtraction.Please make sure your child has black pants or leggings to wear for the parade on Friday. Shirts will be sent home Thursday for children to wear to school Friday.

Class Mardi Gras celebration will start at 1:15. We will enjoy refreshments and take class pictures at this time.


MARDI GRAS INFO

Kindergarten’s Mardi Gras Ball will be Wednesday, February 15 at 9:30 in the gym. Children wear Sunday clothes and all are Maids and Dukes.

Friday, February 17 at 2:00 is the PES parade. We will be dressing as the planet Saturn. Family and friends are invited and parking is tricky so come early!

“I Think I Can” Math Homework Program- Week 3

Please continue to help your child complete the “I Think I Can” homework. They love placing their star on the homework chart when they return the completed work!

  

Tuesday- If your child brings valentines, please make sure they have 23!

Wednesday- Wear Sunday clothes. Crowns, tiaras, & masks will be provided.

Friday- wear black pants and tie-died shirt that will be sent home on Friday. Please wear white undershirts if one is needed.

Reading Tip       

 Play sound games.  Practice blending sounds into words. Ask “Can you guess what word this is, m-o-p?” Hold each sound longer than usual.
