how do I keep the first day/week simple?
*it is strongly suggested that your child ride the bus from the
1st day!!!
*let your child eat a "school" lunch to learn the cafeteria
routine and "how to eat lunch"
*send a small, child friendly snack in a non-returnable container
*use a tote bag for your kindergartener: tote bags are used an
identifiers for our kiddergarten students as a security and
safety measure
*PES tote bags are available but any reasonable sized tote bag
will do
*be sure your child knows how he/she will go home each day
how do I make the bus ride as easy on me and my child as possible?
*look up your child's bus number on the list posted by the office
*call the bus driver and tell him/her that your child is in
kindergarten at PES and will be riding the bus
*introduce your child to the bus driver
*show your child where to get on/off. Stand with the kids at the
bus stop for a few mornings and afternoons before your child's
first ride and watch the bus come by
*have an emergency plan in case you're not home and meet your
neighbors
*teach your child his/her bus number and the name of your neighborhood
do I write names on my child's mat, folder or supplies?
*please don't label the actual item, but you may put your child's
name clearly on the bag of supplies or the packaging
*mats are included in the supply packs ordered from the school
what kind of mat do I need?
*the "kindermat" delux is the sturdiest mat available
*"extra thick" is not needed as it is difficult to store
*mat covers are not allowed as per STPSB policy
*if you can't get kindermat, please see me
what is DIBELS?
*DIBELS is a language based skill assessment
*students are tested by a team of teachers chosen to test
*if a student falls into the "at risk" category, they are assessed every three weeks
*if a student falls into the "low risk or some risk" category,
they are not reassessed until the 2nd, 3rd & 4th nine weeks.
when does kindergarten get a formal report card?
* the kindergarten report card is considered a developmental
progress report
* the progress reports for kindergarten are received at the end of each nine weeks.
do I need to write my child's name on his outerwear, on lunchboxes and tote bag<
YES!!! School supplies and uniform components are not only
expensive, but often look exactly alike. We have an overflowing
lost and found that only an adult can really sort through and
locate lost items. Please help yourself by marking all items.
what is my child's lunch number and why do I need to use it on payments?
Your child's lunch number is recorded in his/her BEE folder.
You'll need to write it on any lunch monies sent in to ensure
proper credit to your account.
You may also pay your account online @ www.Payschools.com
what is an excused absence ?
excused absences are for illnesses.
how are the total absences computed?
*10 absences are allotted for the year.
*as you near the allotted 10 absences you’ll receive a note from STPSB
* all absences are recorded as an absence on the report card, excused or not.
* In the past, if there was a doctor's note, the absence was expunged from the total 10 absences for the year. However, if there was a "mommy" note, the absence was excused but not expunged from the total 10.
* REFER TO THE STPSB student handbook on discipline for full explanation of absence computation. You received a copy at the first of the year in your “beginning school” packet or when you registered.
