This year begins my 28th year in education, 27 years in St. Tammany Parish. I've taught at
Mandeville Kindergarten under Principals Bill Ferrer and Melanie Edwards. I've been
at PES since it's inception in 1994 under Dr. Kathleen Wiseman and recently Kim Thomas.
I've taught 7-9th grade home economics and social studies but early childhood is the heart
of my teaching.
I have a BS from LA Tech and a Masters of Early Childhood from the College of Charleston.
My plus 30 graduate hours are from both UNO and Southeastern.
I am a Louisiana native, born and raised in Tallulah. My husband, Rob, and I moved with our
family to Mandeville 30 years ago. We have three happy, successful children who all
attended St.Tammany Parish public schools. We are also the proud grandparents of Tucker,
Tate, Reed, George and James.
Our dog is an Australian Terrier named "Waltzing Matilda", "Mattie" to all who know and love
her.
I'm a big SEC sports fan enjoying LSU football and baseball. Of course, we also love our
Saints.
I believe Kindergarten is the most formative, most fun and important year in a child's life. It
is in Kindergarten that first impressions of "big school" are formed and a lasting image of
school is created. Kindergarten is more than sand and blocks. As stated by the learned Early
Childhood developmentalist and psychologist, Piaget, "Early childhood is learning through
play".
In Kindergarten, the foundation for all subjects are begun.
Reading, math, science and social studies are all explored and discovered in the
Kindergarten year.
Confidence is built and independence, curiosity and social skills developed. With guidance
and support at theme and in the school, there is no limit for a kindergarten aged child.
Learning should be fun and it is...in Kindergarten!
