Riverside Elementary
Dear Parent/Guardian,
This month our students will be participating in a variety of skills. They will be juggling, cup stacking, and doing aerobic exercises.
Please help your children to meet their Play 60 goal. We are trying to encourage all students to be active for 60 minuets or more daily. If your child does any kind of physical activity write the activity on a piece of paper, the amount of time spent doing the activity and your signature. Send this log into your child's teacher monthly. This can include any recreational sports, playing tag with friends, washing the car, ect.
Riverside’s fitness team:
Dylan Beard Heaven Dearie
Drew Soileau Camryn Lyons
These 4 students have been invited to represent Riverside at the parish fitness meet. The meet will be held at Lakeshore High School on March 3, 2012. Elementary students around the parish have been testing for weeks. Each school tested their students in grades 3 thru 5 on curl ups, chin ups, shuttle run, sit and reach, standing long jump, 50 yard dash and the 600 yard run. This test is truly an overall fitness evaluation. Each test was scored according to the Louisiana Governor’s council on Physical Fitness and Sports. The 2 highest boy’s scores and the 2 highest girl’s scores were invited to compete. We are very proud of Dylan, Drew, Heaven and Camryn as well as all of our students who worked hard taking these test.
Hello, my name is Mrs. Christy Jordan. I will be one of the P.E. teachers this year. I will be at Riverside Monday through Friday. In addition, Mrs. Cheryl Blappert will be with us on Mondays. I look forward to teaching the students of Riverside Elementary School. My goal for the year is to make the students more physically active, fit, and skilled. The first step in accomplishing this goal is for me to teach lessons that are highly active and involve a variety of skills. The second step is for the students to have a positive classroom environment in which to learn these lessons.
To maintain a positive environment, all students are expected to help the class. Riverside students help the class by:
1. Listen to and following the teacher’s directions.
2. Staying in control at all times.
3. Having a pleasant attitude toward others.
4. Respecting people, equipment, and property of Riverside.
If a student does not help the class, he/she will progress through the following consequences:
1. Time out from participation.
2. Exclusion from participation for remainder of class time.
3. Lunch recess.
4. A call home.
5. Referral to the office.
For the safety of the students, tennis shoes must be worn for Physical Education class. Please see your child's P.E. schedule on Teacher Web, Teacher's schedule. Each class will have two 30 min. classes, so remember to find both days on the schedule. If the student does not have on tennis shoes, he/she will not be allowed to participate in the activities. Also, if a student is ill or injured, he/she must bring a note from a doctor or parent/guardian stating the limitations of participation or the exclusion from activity. If the student is limited or excluded from an activity for an extended period of time, please send a note when he/she may resume normal activities. Students will not be excused from participating if they do not have a note. Please send in a written list of any health problems we should be aware of.
I look forward to a fun and productive school year. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please feel free to contact me at school 863-3141.
