High School Graduation Requirements (from BULLETIN 741)

GRADUATION for 2010 and 2011 REQUIREMENTS:

The 23 Carnegie units required listed below AND a passing score on all
required portions of the Graduation Exit Exam:
ENGLISH 4 units Shall be English I, English II, English III and English IV or
or Business English
All students must complete one of the following:
Algebra 1 or Algebra 1 Pt. 1 and Algebra 1-pt. 2, or Integrated Mathematics
1. The remaining unit(s) shall come from the following: integrated
Mathematics 2, Integrated Mathematics 3. Geometry, Alegbra 2, Financial
Mathematics, Advanced Mathematic 1, Advanced Mathematics 2, Pre-Calculus,
Calculus, Probability and Statistics, or Discrete Mathematics.
SCIENCE 3 units Shall be Biology and two of the following: Physical
Science, Biology II, Environmental Science, Physics, Chemistry, and
Chemistry II. Agriculture I and II Combined will satisfy one science credit
requirement.
SOCIAL STUDIES 3 units Shall be American History, ½ Civics, ½ Free Enterprise
STUDIES and one of the following: World Geography or World History.
P.E. 1½ units Shall be P.E. I (1/2) and P.E. II (Both). A maximum of
3 ½ units may be used toward graduation.
HEALTH ½ unit

Class of 2012
Beginning with the freshman class of the 2008-09 school year, 9th grade
students will be enrolled in the LA Core 4 Curriculum. This curriculum is a
more rigorous set of course requirements, and only after their 2nd year in
high school will students be given the option to opt out of the LA Core 4
Curriculum with parental permission. Students who opt out will be able to
receive a regular high school diploma. Also beginning with the freshman class
of 2008-09, students (including those who opt out) will be required to take
an additional year of math, increasing the total number of graduation units
required from 23 to 24.
