Announcements

Everyday of the week, with the exception of Monday (Duty), I am in my room
at lunch for the purpose of make-ups, tutoring, or completing assignments or
quizzes. All students know this, but many are not taking advantage of the
opportunity. Please ask your son/daughter if he/she has completed all work
for me. If not, I am here four days to assist them.

Spartanette Rules and Regulations are posted on this site:

Spartanette Rules and Regulations

Objectives:

1)	To create school spirit, pride, and loyalty
2)	To promote interest in school activities
3)	To develop responsibility, teach self-respect, encourage honest
effort, and develop character

Eligibility:

1)	A student must have a GPA of 1.5. If she falls below a 1.5 GPA for
any semester during the school year, she will be dismissed from the team.
2)	A student must pass 5 units of credit each semester.
3)	A student must not have been dismissed from the team or quit the
team
the preceding year.
4)	A student must not have been dismissed from any other team or
organization or quit that team or organization the preceding year.

Membership:

1)	The organization will be composed of the best dancers as chosen by
the selection committee of qualified judges.
2)	The dance team shall consist of not more than 24 members. Previous
membership on the team plays no part in the selection of the new team.
3)	In order to audition, the student must not owe any fines or fees to
Salmen High School and must not have been suspended (in-house or out of
school) at any time during the school year.

Attendance:

1)	In order to perform with the dance team for an event, a member must
be present at school no less than ½ of the school day.
2)	A Spartanette may not perform if the final practice before a
performance is missed. Also, if a member misses “cuts,” she will not be
allowed to perform, regardless of the excuse.
3)	A member may not attend practice when absent from school. When
returning to school, the member must present a written note from home/doctor
explaining the absence. Illness with a written doctor’s excuse, death in
the
family, legal excuses, or personal extenuating circumstances will be the
only
acceptable excuses. Only 3 excused absences per grading period will be
accepted, including summer. After the 3rd excused absence, a member will
begin receiving demerits.
4)	Members are expected to attend all summer practices and camps.

5)	Employment or interviews are not excuses for missing practice or
leaving practice early and will result in demerits being given.
6)	A Spartanette may only participate in extracurricular activities
that
do not interfere with her responsibilities as a member of the team.

Regulations:

1)	A Spartanette must travel to and from games on the school bus or
other school-approved transportation.
2)	If a student wishes to leave a performance or activity with a
parent,
the parent must present two written notes in advance of the activity - one
to
the sponsor, the other to the principal. The notes must be signed and dated
by the parent or guardian. Failure to comply could result in expulsion from
the team.
3)	During performances:
All Spartanettes should participate at all times. There will be no jewelry
worn, no primping, no food, gum, or drinks (other than water) while in the
stands or at practice. No one is to sit in the reserved stands at football
games or other events except members of the dance team. There will be no
excessive talking between Spartanettes or members of the audience while in
the stands. Spartanettes will be allowed to have the 3rd quarter off at
football games, but may not leave until dismissed and must return with ONE
minute left in the quarter.
4)	Conduct in the classroom, as well as in the halls, around campus,
and
at all school activities, must be of a caliber that sets a good example for
other students. This includes behavior with boyfriends at school or at
Spartanette activities.
v	Any continuous reports of misconduct or disrespect to teachers,
administrators, or other students after selection, may result in dismissal.
v	Suspension from school will result in dismissal.
v	In-house suspension will result in a 4-week probation. During the
probationary period, any behavior by the student that results in
disciplinary
action by a teacher, sponsor, or administrator, will result in dismissal.
Also, during the probationary period, the Spartanette will continue to
attend
all functions and practices in uniform, but may not participate.
5)	Each Spartanette will attend all games and functions unless excused
by the sponsor for illness or other extenuating circumstances. Notice prior
to game time is required for absences to be excused.

Moral and Ethical Values:

1)	Certain standards are necessary for the integrity of any leading
organization. Members of the dance team should be leaders in the school and
set a good example at ALL times. Members are expected to have and maintain
a
character that is above and beyond reproach; personal appearance and habits
of which there can be no criticism are required, since members are
constantly
representing the school and community.
2)	A dance team member is never to be seen smoking, drinking, or using
any king of drug while in any form of Spartanette or school uniform or
representing the team or school. This includes any school or team
function.
If any of the above rules are broken and it is reported to the director, the
director has the authority to immediately dismiss the member from the team.

Discipline and Demerits:

1)	Demerits are assigned as part of the disciplinary process. They
will
be given for violations of rules. The demerit system will be enforced.
2)	The officers with director approval will officially mark demerits.
3)	A student dismissed from the squad for disciplinary reasons or
quitting the squad may not try out the following year.
4)	Incidents sometimes occur that are not covered by the constitution.
Those cases will be handled at the discretion of the director in cooperation
with the school administration.
5)	The following actions will take place for demerit accumulation:
v	10 demerits – 1 game/event suspension
v	15 demerits – non-participating status for 2 weeks
v	20 demerits – dismissal
6)	A student serving a game or event suspension must attend all
practices and also attend the event in uniform, sitting in the assigned
section, but will not perform.
7)	Demerits are assigned for the following reasons or actions:
v	Disrespect to director, teachers, administrators, school-related
personnel – dismissal
v	Failure to ride school-provided /approved transportation – dismissal

Special Notes:

¨	A member may only miss two practices before camp and competition.
¨	If a member does not feel well before practice, she should not
attend
practice. Sitting on the stage does not help the member or the team. This
will be counted as an absence.
¨	There will be no jewelry worn, no gum, no food, and no carbonated
drinks allowed during practice or in the stands at any time.
¨	Spartanettes must always show school spirit – at football games,
basketball games, pep rallies, and all other school functions. It’s a
must!!!
