Unit Description: Psychological Disorders:  Students will review the various types of psychological disorders and learn the concepts of normality and abnormality.

 

 

Essential Questions: What are psychological disorders?

How are psychological disorders characterized?

What are anxiety disorders?

What are somatoform and dissociative disorders?

What are schizophrenia and mood disorders?

What are personality disorders and drug addiction?

 

Resources/Materials:  text, guided readings, section reviews, case studies, study guides, ELMO, Sims, projector

Objectives:

Define psychological disorder

Distinguish between the concepts of normality and abnormality

Identify the behavioral patterns that psychologists label as anxiety disorders

Explain what causes anxiety disorders

Describe the disorder of schizophrenia

Describe several theories that try to explain mod disorders

Describe how personality disorders differ from other psychological disorders

Explain how drug abuse is a psychological problem
