Objectives:
Changing 2-d shapes & space to 3-d form & space using color; differentiate warm & cool colors; understand & apply concept of contrast; use basic watercolor techniques to apply color to drawings; demonstrate correct procedures in paint prep, use & clean-up.
Resources and Materials:
Previously created contour line drawings; watercolor sets, variety of brushes, water containers, practice papers; teacher demos
Differentiation:
Student selection of appropriate images to work from; individual assistance
Preparing Students for the Lesson:

Review 3d imagery, perspective basics, pencil & colored pencil shading, blending & fill techniques. Practice exercises.
Assessment:
Written definitions & notes (paintbrush anatomy/use & care; paint ingredients); practice sketches; final watercolor painting of still life using basic techniques; craftsmanship; observation of work habits, focus, effort.

Set-up & paint exercises (painting flat & graded washes on basic & complex forms)
Finish paint exercises (grade). Chose still life drawing to work on. Apply washes of warm colors to positive spaces & objects.
Cont. work on painting.
Week 2
Demo; working wet-on-wet. Apply cool color combinations to negative space.
Complete watercolor with inked contour line if needed. (grade)
Choose 2nd contour line still life drawing to complete with watercolor using contrast for focal object.
Continue working on painting.
Check & complete painting for technique & craftsmanship. (grade)
