Objectives:

 

 

 

Create and understand the uses of a 12-color color wheel; mix a wide variety of colors based on the primaries; mix a range of values/use a monochromatic color scheme; understand & apply the concept of contrast to create focus; use basic tempera painting techniques to apply color to drawings; demonstrate correct procedures in preparing a palette, use & clean-up.

 

Resources and Materials:

 

 

 

Still life set up; student-created contour line drawings; tempera paints; cardstock, heavy drawing papers, practice papers; variety of brushes, water containers; teacher demos

Student selection of images to work from; individual assistance

Week 1

 

Intro & demo: create and divide a 5” circle into 12 equal parts. Place 3 color groups on color wheel . (notes/drawing)

demos; preparation of a palette using primary colors; mixing secondaries & teriary groups of colors to place on color wheel.

Continue working on color mixtures for color wheel.

Finish color wheel

Create a contour line drawing from area of still life.

Week 2

 

Complete drawing as needed; demo; working with a monochromatic palette (creating a range of values).

Work on painting of still life.

Continue still life painting.

Complete painting.
