Unit Description: Unit 2 Reproduction and genetics

 

 

Essential Questions:  What is the relationship between genes, chromosomes and proteins? Describe the relationship  among DNA, genes, chromosomes, and proteins.  Identify the basic structure and function of nucleic acids. . How is DNA related to protein synthesis? What are Mendels laws of genetics.  Predict the genotype and phenotype of a monohybrid and dihybrd cross.

 

 

Resources/Materials: books, handouts,  united streaming,  teacher notes.

 

 

Standards/Benchmarks/GLE   5, 7, Ls GLE 11

 

 

 

Objectives:

     Can students predict the genotype and phenotype of both monohybrid and dihybrid crosses Can students define  the vocabulary  and  apply Mendels laws of genetics.

 

 

Student Learning Activities:

 

 

 

Begin Vocabulary words chapter 10

 Complete vocabulary  words chapter 10.

  Explanation on genetics and Greg or Mendel laws.

Students are to finish vocabulary. Using handout students will identify  the terms.

   


Explantion on working monohybrid crosses involving regular patterns of inheritance, sexlinked traits, incomplete dominance, codominance,  multiple alleles

. Test on genetic vocabulary words. students will work varies genetic problems

What strategies will I use to address literacy this week? Reading and answering  genetic problems.Using the reinforcement and study guide workbook students will answer questions. Students will answer questions using the book and to answer questions on the reinforcement work.
