Astronomy

Astronomy is the study of the origin of the universe; the relationships of
the galaxies, stars, and planets to one another; the types of galaxies; the
development and destruction of stars; the Milky Way; our solar system;
Earth, the Moon, and the Planets; and the technological and mathematical
applications of the telescope and various devices related to space
exploration and discovery.

Planets, Stars, and Beyond

Jack Horkheimer has a closing spot on WLAE presenting information about
astronomy. He is interesting and slightly crazy, which makes listening to
him lots of fun!

Subject Cosmological Investigation
(This includes topics outside the Milky Way Galaxy.)

Note: No project may be duplicated.

Objectives (1) To develop an in-depth understanding of the chosen
                   astronomy topic.
               (2) To prepare a written project or powerpoint presentation.
               (3) To develop research skills, data and information
                   collection skills, and organizational skills.
               (4) To incorporate technology into the research, preparation,
writing, and presentation of the project.

Components (1) Title Page
                    (a) A title germaine to your topic that draws the
                        audience into the presentation.
                    (b) Your name, class, & date in 12 font, centered and
presented in the lower one-third of the page.
               (2) Written Portion
                    (a) 750-word minimum, excluding title page & bibliography

within the paper must be relevant to the information
presented on that page. Note: You may use clipart if
you like to enhance the look of your project, but it will
                   not satisfy the picture/graphics requirement.
               (4) Bibliography page
                    (a) minimum of three sources
                    (b) presented in MLA format
Below are several MLA links you could use:

               (6) Point Assessment
All components are assessed points, not just the written
portion, so make sure your project includes all components
listed above. Because presentation is a critical
part of any project, uniqueness, organization, grammar,
and spelling will be evaluated along with content and
minimum requirements stated above. Projects will be
given a zero if any plagiarized source or duplicated
material (from any other person's project, past or
present)
is found in any portion of the project.
               (7) If you wish to do a PowerPoint presentation, please check
with Ms. Skinner to make sure it will include the
                   components and requirements stated above.
