Unit Description: The Executive Branch/ The Judicial Branch.

 

 

Essential Questions: What types of authority does a President have? What are the duties of the Judicial Branch? Are the checks and balances provided by the Constitution adequate?

 

Resources/Materials: The Constitution/ Text, Outside resources, media.

 

 

Standards/Benchmarks/GLEs:  C-1A-H4, C-1A-H6, C-1B-H5, C-1C-H1, C-1D-H3, G-1A-H1.

 

 

 

Objectives:

 

 

 

Identify given states on a map. Understand the differing roles of the office of President.

 

 

 

 

 

Discuss presidential succession. List the duties of the Vice-President.

Understand the differences between the state court system and the federal court system.

Analyze the U. S. Supreme Court.

Discuss the political process involved in selecting the Supreme Court Justices.

List 5 limits on the Supreme Courts power and give examples of their implementation.

Review map. Continue discussion. Begin to read Ch8, L1&2
