Unit Description: Functions
Essential Questions: Can the students state the difference between a function and a relation in graphical, symbolic, and numerical representations? Can students sole absolute value equations and inequalities and state their solutions in five forms when appropriate - number line or coordinate graphs, roster, set notation using compound sentences using "and" or "or", interval notation, and absolute value notation?
Resources/Materials: Guaranteed Curriculum (Unit 1), text book, Tv, TI Presenter, ELMO, dry erase boards
Standards/Benchmarks/GLEs: N-1-H,N-5-H, N-2-H, A-1-H,A-3-H,P-5-H,A-4-H,D-2-H,D-7-H,P-1-H,P-5-H,P-3-H |

Objectives: |
Tsw reinforce the concepts of a function verbally, numerically, symbolically, and graphically.
|
Tswbat express answers to functions in roster, set, interval, and absolute value notation. |
Tswbat determine the domain and range of a given function.
|
Tswbat solve absolute value equations and inequalities and write the solutions in interval or roster notation in terms of distance. |

GC Unit 1 Activity 1: Definition of Functions
Bellringer
Activity
Guided Practice: Section 2.1 in text book (pages 67-74)
As a class, we will work on 1-16 on page 71
Independent Practice: pages 71-73, 20-52 evens
|
Ttw go over yesterday’s homework, answering any questions the students may have.
GC Unit 1 Activity 2: Interval and Absolute Value Notation
Guided Practice: Section 2.8 in text book (pages 122-127), 4-11
Independent Practice: pages 125-12-40 evens, 41
|
Ttw go over last night’s homework and answer any questions.
GC Unit 1 Activity 3: Domain and Range
Bellringer
Ttw then pick some problems from the last two nights' homework and discuss the domain and range of those functions. |
GC Unit 1 Activity 4: Solving Absolute Value Equations and Inequalities
Bellringer
Activity
Guided Practice: Section 1.7 Solving Absolute Value Equations and Inequalities (pages 50-55)
As a class, we will work on 4-14
Independent Practice: pages 53-54, 18-58 every other even
|
Ttw have a few problems for the students to work on as a Bellringer when they come into class.
Ttw walk around and check everyone's homework.
Next, as a class, the homework will be checked from last night.
Ttw give the students a practice worksheet on solving absolute value equations and inequalities to be turned in by the end of class. |
