Hello to all. My name is Anne Baird. This is my tenth year teaching,
all of which have been here at Salmen. My roots are here at Salmen, I
graduated in 1991. The faculty, staff, education, and experiences I had
while I was a student here made such a positive impact on my life, that I
wanted no other school to begin my teaching career!
I started college at USM on scholarship to pursue a nursing
career. However, I transferred to Southeastern the next year. I changed my
major to secondary math education only having 3 semesters of nursing school
left. Every day I know I made the right decision by changing my major. I
absolutely love to teach! My students are the absolute best part of my job.
I find myself back at Southeastern, this time as a graduate student.
I am in the process of working on getting my masters degree in counseling.
Finally, I would love to share with you all that I am a proud parent of
my eight-year-old son, Blake. He is my pride and joy! He's in second grade
at Abney and like his mama; loves school!
Every year, I am asked at least 10 times, "Why do I have to learn
this? Will I ever use it in the real-world?" My mission is to have my
students make the math connection with everyday experiences. I want them to
realize that they DO need math to survive in the real-world. I would also
love for them to absorb my enthusiasm for this subject and see that math
really is FUN!
