Hi I am Patricia Cherniak Hailwood and I am certified in Secondary Education
for Special Education and Social Studies. This is my 5th year teaching
Special Education in the self-contained Mild/Moderate classroom
at Salmen High School.
I received my bachelor's degree in Journalism/Advertising from LSU and then
worked in advertising and media for the next 15 years.
Before Hurricane Katrina hit, I had the realization that I was not in the
right career so I decided to go back to school and pursue my teacher's
certification. I actually started school the week Katrina hit! UNO and
myself prevailed and I completed the program in 2008. One thing I have
learned from taking the challenge and going back to school after almost 20
years, is that you should always follow your heart and your passion. I knew
as a little girl that I wanted to be a teacher but chose to go down a
different road after college. Yes, I made money but never felt truly
rewarded by my career choice.
Now I am a teacher and this is where I belong!!! I am a life-long learner
and embrace every opportunity that I am given to learn and to teach. I love
it and I truly embrace the opportunity everyday to make a difference in a
young person's mind.
Together we will learn how to be independent, successful, and productive
citizens of our community!
