I have been a member of the Spartan Family for all of my
20 years in education. I taught mathematics for 15 years and have served as a
school administrator for 5. I graduated from The Academy of the Holy Angels
as class Salutatorian in 1987. I was awarded the Chancellor's
scholarship to UNO and received my undergraduate degree in Secondary
Mathematics at the University of New Orleans in 1991. I
completed my Master's Degree in Administration at Southeastern
Louisiana University.Following my Master's work, I pursued and earned
certification in the area of Special Education/Gifted. This completes
coursework for 30 graduate hours beyond a Master's Degree. I completed the
St. Tammany prospective administrator's Academy in 2001 and trained as a
Louisiana new teacher assessor. I served as mathematics
department chair and as a LATAAP mentor for new teachers. I have been
selected as Who's Who Among America's High School Teacher by former
students (3 times). Also, I assisted with the writing of two 8g
grants, one of which was awarded to Salmen in 2001. In 2003 I earned a
grant through the Louisiana Department of Education for Quality Science and
Mathematics. I used this funding to purchase technological tools and
software for integration in my classroom teaching. In 2003 I worked on
Certification by the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards and
earned that certification in 2004. I was
selected 2003-04 Teacher of the Year by my fellow faculty members and was a
top three semifinalist for St. Tammany Parish. In 2005 I was nominated and
became a finalist for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics
and Science Teaching. This is an honor for which I am quite thankful and
appreciative.I have been married to my high school sweetie, Kenny, for 22
years and we have two beautiful children. Allison is my oldest at 21 She is
a nursing student at Southeastern Louisiana University.
Kenneth is my baby at 14 years old. He attends St. Tammany Junior High School
and is in 7th Grade. Slidell has been my home for 21 years and I have
enjoyed my time at Salmen.
In 2006-07 I trained under Mr. Wegmann as Administrative Assistant and was
selected Assistant Principal in 2007. I became Principal of Salmen High in
2009 following the promotion of my good friend and mentor Byron Williams. I
am so honored to be in this position. I feel I can have a positive impact at
Salmen High. I am passionate about what I do and I care deeply for my
students, teachers, and the community I serve. Education is in my blood.
