What do I do if I forget to send lunch money?

If your child is out of money, they will be given a peanut butter
and jelly sandwich and milk, and they will be reminded to bring
money tomorrow. A reminder notice will go home when funds are
low or money is owed.

When are Reading Logs due?

Please send Reading Logs each Friday so that I can check that
your reading minutes are on track. I will take up Reading Logs
at the end of each month. Remember to log in your minutes each
day. Reading at home counts as a percentage of the reading
grade. We want all A's in Reading At Home!

What is the uniform policy?

Shreve Island has a dress code policy. Please make sure you have
read and understand it. We prefer that your child wear socks and
shoes with backs on them. Especially on P.E. days (Wed. and
Thurs.) your child should wear athletic shoes. Shirts must be
tucked in and belts are to be worn daily.

When is homework due?

Please make sure you READ AND SIGN the Homework Planner each
night. It contains all your child's assignments, which are
usually due the next day (unless it is a project). In case of an
absence, you can call the school office and I will send
homework/daily work to the office by 2:00 for you to pick up. It
is important that your child make up all work missed.

Can I eat lunch with my child?

Yes! We would love to have you come as you can; however, the
school does not allow food to be brought in for your child from
outside restaurants (e.g., McDonald's).

How long should I keep my child home if he/she is ill?

We ask that you keep your child home until he/she has been fever-
free for 24 hours. That will help us all stay healthy!!

May we celebrate our child's birthday at school?

We will celebrate your child's birthday in the classroom by
singing to your child, he/she will receive a birthday ribbon from
the office, and I will give each one a little birthday treat.
You may eat lunch with your child that day and bring (or send)
cupcakes or cookies, but no balloons, candles, etc., please.

What is the Tardy Policy, and what if my child checks out early?

Your child is tardy at 8:00 AM, and is marked tardy if they check
out any time during the day before dismissal. If you must go to
the doctor or dentist, please make sure to turn in an excuse.

How is 2nd grade Spelling different?

We feel that it is important for your child to learn STRATEGIES
for spelling words. Spelling words will be displayed on an
alphabetical list and on our WORD WALL. Some of the words will
need to be memorized as sight words. During the week we will use
these and other words for fun activities in which students build
new words based on the words they know and are learning (ex., If
you can spell plan, you can spell planned, planning, planner,
unplanned, etc. Students use the Word Wall as a bank from which
to draw when they are writing in all subjects. Our spelling
program is fun and helps students with all different learning
styles (visual, auditory, and kinesthetic) as we stomp, chop,
clap, rope, sing, whisper, and shout our words!
TESTS WILL BE EVERY FRIDAY.

How about the reading program?

We will be reading the weekly story from the basal series. Make
sure you record it on your Reading Log each night in addition to
all the other reading you do. Here are so ways to read:
* Read the basal story to your child on the first night.
* Read together on Tuesday and Wednesday night.
* On Thursday have your child read it to you.
* Your child will bring their reading book to class each day.
