I began my teaching career in 2000 when I graduated from Delta State
University in Cleveland, MS. I taught 5th grade at Nailor Elementary in
Cleveland, MS for 3 years. My husband and I moved to Mandeville, LA in
2004. I taught 4th grade for part of the year and then kindergarten for the
rest of the year in New Orleans. I began my teaching career at Sixth Ward in
2005 by teaching kindergarten. I started teaching third grade in 2006, and
it has become my favorite grade. I began working on my Master's in Elementary
Education at Delta State University Fall 2010.
My mission is to shape each child's future. Each student is unique, and
it is my goal to find the special key that unlocks his/her potential.
Discovering the special academic and behavior management needs of each child
is necessary for teaching. I believe a teacher must possess a deep, caring,
and unconditional love for all students, especially the most difficult ones.
I hope to help all students become capable of learning and behaving
appropriately in the classroom.
We follow the "Fish Philosophy" in the third grade. These principles
apply in any walk of life. They are: BE THERE, CHOOSE YOUR ATTITUDE, MAKE
THEIR DAY, and HAVE FUN. "BE THERE" means to attend school every day as well
as be focused and listening when others are speaking. "CHOOSE YOUR ATTITUDE"
reminds students that our attitudes can be controlled and affect everyone
around us. "MAKE THEIR DAY" encourages students to make others feel valued
and respected. We should always look for ways to make another person's
day. "HAVE FUN" does not mean just play all day. It means to try to enjoy
life and the activities we do in class. Learning should not be a painful
experience!
