On the first day of each week you will be given Vocabulary for the story we will read in our text. You will define these words and a test will be given on these words on the last day of the week. During the week we will read and discuss a story from your readers. A comprehension test on the story will be taken on the last day of the week. Each week we will focus on a specific reading skill to help you become a better reader. So in addition to reading your text story I will ask you to be reading a good fit book and an AR book.When reading your books I will expect you to keep a list of words you find interesting or do not know. This will help you expand your vocabulary and practice the focus skill for the week. Additionally you will be expected to complete two SRA reading stories on you level each week.  I will be checking this for a classwork grade. This grade is for doing the work and being on task. By reading SRA and completing the work that goes with it you will see what you need to work on as a growing reader. This is the plan for our reading in 5th grade. The only change will be that sometimes we will read novels instead of our text. As for homework in reading, it is to study your vocabulary and reread the material in your text for your test. You are also asked to read your AR or good fit book every night for at least 15 mins. This will help us all have a successful year.
