Class Work and Homework
All class work assigned should be done to the best of your ability. Any
class work not completed in class must be finished as part of your
homework. Daily assignments are always due by class time the next day.
Students who use class time wisely should have very little homework from
daily assignments.
You will have some form of homework each night,in most subjects, and
sometimes on the weekends. Each quarter, every student begins with a
homework grade of 100%.
Each time the homework is not completed and/or ready to present to the
teacher, five points will be deducted from the homework grade.
Remember that homework is important and MUST be completed each day!
Consistent failure to complete your homework will affect your quarterly
grades.
You are at an age when you should be learning how to do your
homework independently. You should get in the habit of studying and
reviewing nightly. This practice will help you tremendously when it is test
time. Don’t wait until the last minute to study!!
Homework will be updated on this website each day. Homework assignments will
be written on the board each morning. It is your job to write it down every
day. Sometimes homework will change and I will not have the opportunity
the change it on the website. What is written on the board IS the
correct homework, so always copy your assignments into your assignment book
and don’t depend on the website as the end all to your homework
needs. But DO check the website each day for special and important
announcements and reminders.
Remember that homework is important and MUST be completed each day!
Consistent failure to complete your homework will affect your quarterly
grades.
Absences
When you are absent, I will write down any assignments you missed, collect
your books, and send them to the office. It will be your responsibility to
keep up with the work, make up any tests, and turn in any missed work. Any
work not completed that is counted for a grade will be given the grade of a
0. Zeros bring down grade averages quite quickly. Be sure all your work is
completed and turned in so you don’t receive any. Make-up tests must be
taken the day you return to school unless there is a prolonged absence due
to illness.
Classroom Expectations:
The SCR Student Handbook states the school's expectations for all students.
Listed below are the classroom expectations for all students.
All students are expected to follow basic, simple rules:
1. Respect yourself.
2. Respect others.
3. Respect property.
This means that students should follow directions the first time they are
given, behave cordially with all students and adults, and come prepared for
class every day.
Students who struggle with these rules will face the following consequences:
1. Verbal warning
2. Entry into the behavior log with 1 point deducted from the conduct grade
3. Written punishwork that must be signed by a parent and 3 points deducted
from the conduct grade
4. Conduct notice/detention issued and 5 points deducted from the conduct
grade.
Each child will begin with an A+,100,in conduct for each subject. Points
will be deducted for students who do not follow the rules and policies, or
show inappropriate behavior. Points deducted cannot be regained.
Homework Policy:
All students begin each quarter with a grade of 100% in homework. Each time
an assignment is not completed, the student will lose 5 points from that
homework grade. Partial credit will only be given if a student completes at
least half of an assignment.
Website
This website should be checked each day. It contains important
information that you will need plus daily homework will be posted on this
site. You can reach the site on the SCR site or type in the address.

Save this link to your desktop as you will be checking it daily.
Also, sign up on the “Newsflash” page to receive important emails.
Grades
You are expected to always do your best. Daily work, homework, quizzes,
tests, class participation, and cooperation are all grade-worthy.
Everything is important. Grades will be accessible on line.
Grading Policy:
Tests/Projects 50% of quarterly grade
Homework/Quizzes 25% of quarterly grade
Quarterly Exam 25% of quarterly grade
Please refer to the SCR Student Handbook for promotion/retention policies.
Binder
Your binder is extremely important. Since we do not use notebooks, your
binder contains everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) you need for class,
homework, and tests. At the end of each quarter, I will inform you when to
clean out your binder so you can start fresh for the new quarter.
Make sure that you use your binder correctly. Do not shove important loose
papers in your books or school bag. Keeping yourself organized will help you
achieve better grades.
Fifth grade is a transition year to junior high. The expectations are
different than they were in the lower grades. I want you to be prepared for
what is to come in your future.
Conferences
If your parents would like to meet and have a conference, please have them
call school and leave a message or they may use my email address to get in
touch with me.
Together we can make 5th grade the best year yet!!!
