Friday, we had our first FUN FOOD PROJECT! We made an edible garden with pudding, cookies, gummy worms, and oreos! They were so CUTE and YUMMY!! We had a great time! MANY THANKS to the moms who came to help us: Gabriel's mom, Brooke's mom, Sarah's mom, Jake's mom, and Rebekah's mom. EXTRA THANKS to SARAH'S mom for organizing our adorable project! MARK YOUR CALENDARS...KINDERGARTEN FIELD TRIP WILL BE FRIDAY, MARCH 16, 2012. We will be going to RED BLUFF FARM. Parents are welcomed to attend. Details will come later in the year. IMPORTANT..last week a sheet came home that shows you proper formation of letters and numbers. We will practice this daily in our class; however, it is also important for you to do so at home. When doing homework, please refer to this sheet to help your child properly form their letters and numbers. We concentrate a lot on handwriting and we need your help at home too. Please keep this paper in a safe place and refer to it when doing homework. Thank you! Rebekah is our Fish of the week! We can't wait to learn more about you! Fish of the week posters go home on Friday. Please decorate them and return them on Monday. Your child may also bring in a show and tell when they are the fish of the week. Thursday, we had a MYSTERY READER, KOLBE'S MOM and DAD! They read us an LSU and SAINTS book and got us in the spirit for the Saints game!! We had fun cheering. They also brought us each a saints football cup with goodies inside! We loved their visit!! Thank you  Some Letter G center activities will include: learning the ingredients to make gumbo and making our very own Grandma's Gumbo, growing red beans and documenting their growth, cutting and gluing G pictures from magazines, listening to Hansel and Gretel in our listening center, practice writing G, O, and C with shavin g cream, playing games, and making a goldfish with glue and tissue paper! Also, in our math centers, we will be using many types of manipulatives to create patterns (ABAB, AABAAB, and ABCABC)! Have your child create some with you at home!
Feed the Hungry is the first Wednesday of every month. Please send in a non-perishable food item to help the less fortunate. This is a great way to teach our little ones about the importance of helping others! Thank you! If you are interested in K4J (Kids for Jesus), please send back your applications that were sent home in your registration packets. The first K4J meetings are scheduled for October 11 and 12. If you need another application or more information, please look online under the K4J link. Mission Money - we will be collecting money for the less fortunate throughout the year. Please encourage your children to help others in need. Perhaps, they can earn money by doing chores and helping out at home. Miss Erin's twins have arrived! She has been blessed with two beautiful, healthy babies. We can't wait to meet Cecelia and Griffin!

UPDATE ON THE TWINS! The babies have been very well behaved and have stayed put! They are scheduled to arrive on September 16th, if there are no more bumps in the road. I miss school very much, but will be very busy soon enough! Thank you for all of your prayers! Please keep them coming! 
We are beginning homework this week. Most of the time, homework will consist of one worsheet, sometimes back and front. Homework will be marked with a "homework" stamp. Also, please help your child to complete their homework very neatly and in pencil. Sad faces will be marked if their work is messy. Please check your child's homework, especially if your child completes it without you. Thank you for your help!
Thursday is a BLACK AND GOLD DAY to celebrate the Saints first game! Your child may wear a Saints jersey, Saints shirt, or a solid black/gold tshirt to school. The rest of their uniform must be worn. WHO DAT?!
Friday-The Second Grade is sponsoring Olivia's Heart Day (baby sister of Nathan (2nd) and Delilah (PreK3) at St. Clement on Friday, September 9.They learned that their baby has a rare genetic condition called Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. Olivia will be born with part of her heart not functioning, and will require surgery at 3 days, several months and 3 years old. Students bringing any donation can wear a red shirt with the rest of their uniform. They can bring $3 for an armband which they CAN wear to school through the following week. They can bring $10 for an Olivia's Heart tshirt. Second grade parents will set up tables at all morning drop off areas. They will collect donations and distribute armbands/tshirts there.
