I have posted the homework for the week of Sept 12 - 16 & Sept. 19 - 23. PLEASE PRINT THESE ASSIGNMENTS OUT TODAY! We should be switching to the new software on Monday (tomorrow) and all of our websites will be changing. I am attempting to put all of the same information of my new website for your convenience, but it has been a bit challenging for me so far! Your child will be coming home with an activation code for you to set up your ed line account and view your child's grades. PLEASE BE PATIENT WITH THIS TRANSITION - THANK YOU!
Mission money is collected daily and turned into the office on Thursdays. We encourage your child to do chores and help out at home to earn money for the missions. Thank you once again for your generosity.
FUTURE READING TESTS Next week is the "Big Blue Ox" test and I will assist the class by reading the test to them. However, the future reading tests will be taken independently by your child. Please practice learning the WORD WALL WORDS that are on my website. These words will help with fluency and comprehension. Accurate assessment of their reading ability will be measured with the "Fox and a Kit" story. Please continue your help and support at home. Thanks!
K4J applications were sent home in the registration packets. The first K4J meetings are scheduled for October 11 and 12. If you need another application or for more information please look on line under the K4J link.
I have updated the birthdays on my website. We will celebrate the birthdays at the end on each month. Our Birthday mom will send you information prior to the birthday celebration to coordinate what we will need.
1st Grade Adjustment The children have made a GREAT adjustment from Kinder to First Grade! I realize this is a BIG jump with TESTS and HOMEWORK. I hope things are going smoothly at home. I greatly appreciate your support. The homework might say review a subject each night such as spelling or religion but if your child knows the material that does not apply to your child. Some children need frequent review and others do not. Please let me know if your child is struggling as that is a sign of a problem we need to address. THANKS!
SAFE ENVIRONMENT INFORMATION Parents who would like to volunteer, sub, chaperone trips, basically anything on campus dealing with the children, must attend Safe Environment training on Wednesday, August 24, 7:00 p.m. in the church. If they attended last year, they do NOT have to attend. They can check the archdiocesan website (www.arch-no.org) for more Safe Environment Training dates and schools. They will need to give a copy of their certificate when completed.
Special THANKS to Alexander & Frederick for giving us a new electric pencil sharpener, colored tissue paper and rolls of colorful stickers. Also, THANKS to Diego for giving us a new electric pencil sharpener. We can always use a back up one! Thanks you to Danielle for bringing us motivational stickers! THANK YOU FOR BEING SO KIND!!
THANK YOU AVA for bring in Halloween stickers, Dr. Seuss stickers and bookmarks to share with your friends!
Thanks to Gabriella for giving us sticky notes and some motivational stickers - we love them!
I am HAPPY to announce that Shannon Nash & Michelle McCabe our our Room Mothers for this year! They will be sending home a volunteer & donation sign up sheet next week. There will be many opportunities for you to sign up and help throughout the year.
TESTS We have many tests coming up and I realize this is a major adjustment from Kinder. Please help prepare your child for each test. Practice spelling tests are given at school to help you find the difficult words for your child. A math practice test will be given on Monday (today) to give you an example of what our test looks like. The language Sentence Jingle oral test is said with a small group of children. The religion chapter 1 test is easier than the study guide. My hope is that the study guide provides additional information to enhance confidence. We want to continue building confidence with many successes so please review a little every night. We have daily review using various learning experiences.
MISSION MONEY We are learning about Mission Children and talking about their need for food, clothing, and medicine. Please ask your child to EARN money with chores to share with those less fortunate.
I have posted the homework for the week. Even though I have it posted for the entire week, please check it daily (after 3:30) in case I have to make any adjustments. I have also updated our activity schedule. I hope to build confidence in teaching the test taking skills. However, please review at home by studying and checking homework.
Please check the HOMEWORK SITE and notice our homework and test schedule. Each test will be given VERY slowly in the beginning of the year. I read the questions and give MANY CLUES. Please enter your email address on this website newsflash.
