Curriculum

Religion: Jesus Our Guide from The Faith and Life Series continues the commitment to the faithful transmission of the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church by emphasizing the importance of Scripture and the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

Reading: Scott Foresman Reading Street: This series is composed of

fiction and non-fiction selections. The skills emphasized include: phonics,

fluency, vocabulary, and text comprehension. Guided instruction enables

students to develop as independent, strategic readers. The particular focus

moves from literal to inferential reading.

Language Arts: The Shurley Method - English Made Easy initially teaches students the parts of speech by using definitions in jingle form. The rhythmic definitions help students remember the role of each part of speech.
Next, in a Question and Answer Flow a series of questions and answers
determines the role each word plays in a sentence. In this way parts of
speech are never studied in isolation. Once a concept is introduced it is
repeatedly applied in daily exercises throughout the year. Students are then
taught how to merge this strong skill foundation with the writing process.
