St. Clement of Rome is a Catholic parochial elementary school offering pre-kindergarten through seventh grade. St. Clement of Rome enjoys an excellent reputation within the community because of its strong academic and extra-curricular programs. St. Clement of Rome was the first elementary Archdiocesan Catholic School completing requirements and attaining accreditation of Southern Association of Colleges and Schools in the New Orleans area. Ninety-nine percent of seventh grade students are accepted into the high schools of their first choice, many of them receiving academic scholarships.
Classes at St. Clement of Rome School in grades pre-kindergarten through second grade are self-contained and heterogeneously grouped. Each pre-kindergarten through first grade class has a teacher and a full-time assistant. Assistant teachers are also available to help teachers at other grade levels as needs arise. Third grade utilize two teachers with students changing classes. Grades fourth through seventh are fully departmentalized, with homogeneously grouped classes.
Our counselor provides many services for our students, including self-esteem building, dealing with conflict, and facing other socially relevant issues in a student's life. Programs such as "DARE" and the Safe and Drug Free Program, along with many age appropriate programs, are headed by the counselor.
Support staff at St. Clement of Rome consists of a physical education teacher, two music teachers, one Independent Needs teacher, a computer teacher, a Spanish language teacher and a librarian. All classes have scheduled physical education. Students in grades pre-k through third have general music. Third grade students also have a year of choir. Students in grades fourth and fifth have instrumental music. Students in grades sixth and seventh have either general music or instrumental music. Independent Needs is available to students in grades first through third in reading and mathematics. Spanish is taught to all students. Students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade attend a scheduled library class. Computer is taught to 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students.
During the spring semester, students in grades third through seventh grade take the TerraNova Achievement Test, a norm-referenced standardized test.
Some outstanding features of St. Clement of Rome School are a full-service cafeteria and a multi-purpose facility including the library, the choral room, the band room, and the gymnasium. A state-of-the art computer lab containing thirty-two computers provides access to current technology. The grounds include a playground, landscaping, benches, and a meditation walkway.
St. Clement of Rome offers extended care to its students. Both before and after school care are available. The after care program is structured so that students can finish homework under supervision of regular classroom teachers and other qualified personnel. Outdoor play, small group games, and snack time are also part of the program.
