| WELCOME BACK!
It is hard to believe another summer has come and gone and we are now
facing a new school year. I am looking forward to teaching you this year.
Please check this site often throughout the year to keep up with
assignments. It is also a good idea to email me from time to time to get
personal feedback on your progress in class or for any help you may need
with assignments. I also encourage you to write to express your thoughts or
ideas about topics we are covering in class. I welcome your feedback, it
helps me to become a better teacher when I know what helps students learn.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Lynne Vance
Please check the supply link as well as teacher handouts for important
information about both English III and Fine Art Survey!
Where will your English grades come from?
Grades:
Your grades will come from a variety of sources such as:
• Daily Warm Ups
• Homework
• Vocabulary
• Quizzes
• Selection Tests
• Writing Assignments
• Group Activities
• Presentations
• Ability to follow procedures and directions ( see note below)
This year I will be assigning a point per day just for following procedures
and directions. At the beginning of each class I expect students to be in
their seat quietly completing the warm-up for the day. If you are not doing
this you will lose your point for the day. Also, as the class progresses
you will be given additional assignments, many will involve group work. If
you are talking outside of your group or not following directions and
procedures you will also lose your point. This may seem trivial to you now,
but at the end of the semester you have the opportunity to earn 90 points
just for following directions! ( Note you will not be penalized if absent.)
Grading scale:
94-100 A 93 – 87 B 86 – 79 C 78-70 D
Below 70 – FMake Up Work
Make – up work is YOUR Responsibility.
You will have three ways to keep up with important information regarding
English III and Fine Arts Survey.
• Consult Teacher Web Page
http://teacherweb.com/LA/SumnerHighSchool/MrsLVance/
• Consult Study-Buddy ( note you will either choose or be assigned
someone as your study buddy to help you stay informed. You will exchange
phone numbers and email at the beginning of the semester)
• Consult binder in class with information about class assignments
NOTE THAT MAKE-UP TESTS MAY BE DIFFERENT FROM THE ORIGINAL TEST. PLEASE
MAKE AN EFFORT TO BE IN CLASS ON TESTING DAYS!
All make up work must be completed and turned in within three to five days
after an excused absence. Unexcused absences will receive a zero.
