What should my child bring home in his/her backpack daily?
Your child should have his/her reading book, flashcard bag, take home folder(remember those papers are yours), and his/her plastic
folder with conduct & homework. You should have the GREEN HOME workbook either in his/her backpack or in a homework spot at home
to complete math pages.
How long should our homework take?
If your child is NOT struggling with the skills, homework should take no more than 20 minutes. You should find the best time to
work with your child.
***However, if your child IS STRUGGLING with the skills, it will take longer. We suggest you choose 2 times to work on homework
like right after school and review story/flashcards again just before bedtime. Just keep in mind that if your child is
struggling, it takes more effort at home & at school to keep up.
How can I use the conduct grade information to help my child?
Watch conduct grades carefully. Daily conduct grades tell you if your child is paying attention and working quietly, but still
struggling. It also might tell you that your child may be talking too much and is unable to concentrate on new materials. Review the rules on the bottom and see if your child has a pattern of
breaking one rule and discuss that specific rule with your child so he/she can improve in that area.
What rewards or consequences are there for conduct grades?
Each teacher may have specific consequences & rewards in her classroom. Be sure to contact your teacher for more details.
*******Remember that all conduct grades are added together for the 9 weeks conduct grade on the report card and that conduct
DOES count toward honor roll!
What grades will be on the report card?
Your child will receive a grade in Math, Reading, Language Development (16% spelling/37%writing/37%grammar/10%homework),
Science, Social Studies, Health, Conduct, PE (Coach Douglas & Coach Buteau), Music (Mrs. Beckham), and Art (Mrs. Nelson). ALL
of these grades are used for Honor Roll! Your child will also have section with information about how he/she is doing with
handwriting, work habits, social behavior, and attendance including tardies.
How can I monitor my child's grades and progress BEFORE report card time?
1st--Graded papers will come home in the Wildcat folder on Tuesdays. Be sure to look at the grades on each paper. Those
grades will be combined by subject (see question 5) for your child's report card in each subject.
2nd--Half-way through each 9 weeks, your child will receive a Progress Report with his/her grades so far. That must be signed
and returned. If a conference is needed at that time, you or the classroom teacher may request one.
3rd--Continue to monitor graded papers in the Wildcat folder weekly for the rest of the 9 weeks after progress reports for
improving grades or continued acadmic struggles.
How are children recognized for good grades at UES?
Daily, we praise your child's A's in conduct and 100%A on graded papers that come home in the Wildcat folder. At the end
each 9 weeks, each grade has a scheduled Honor's Assembly to recognize the Principal's List (All A's), A Honor Roll (A's & B's
only), Caddo Parish School Board Honor Roll (3.0-A's, B's, and C's, but C's cannot out number A's), Perfect Attendance, and Star
Student (hard workers who have accomplished, but may not have acheived other honor roll). Students who are recognized at
Honor's Assemblies receive gift certificates from numerous local restaurants and UES certificates. Principal's list students also
enjoy Pizza with the Principal after the Honor's Assemblies.
Most importantly, your child is well prepared for every day, every lesson, every subject, and, therefore....success in the
next grade!
How do I send lunch money?
Your child may bring lunch money to school daily, put it in his/her envelope, and we will send it to the cafeteria. You
may also take the money directly to the cafeteria in cash or money order only! You may also pay online at (mylunchMoney.com).
What is the $25 supply fee for if I sent school supplies already
The supply fee covers Wildcat folders, some field trip plans, and enrichment funding since they do not receive supplies from
students.
How can I set up a conference?
You may send a note in your child's platic homework/conduct folder, WILDCAT folder, or call the office (797-2240) to schedule
a conference. Your classroom teacher will confirm a time and date to avoid any conflicts with meetings or other conferences.
