Clifton Webb a New Teacher
At
Zachary High
Before moving to New Orleans more than 30 years ago, I attended high school
and college in Baton Rouge. McKinley was my high school Alma Mata and I
received degrees in sculpture from LSU, both a B.F.A and M.F.A. . . .
I’ve lived and worked in New Orleans for the past 30 years. During that time
I’ve been employed by the University of New Orleans, Xavier University, and
Tulane University. I’ve been employed by the Orleans Public Schools for 24
years and a teacher at McMain High School for approximately 21 years before
being forced out by Hurricane Katrina.
During my formative years I was quite fond of sculpture and painting, in
high school I won prizes for my sculpture. During my first year in college I
made up my mind to become a sculptor.
After Katrina I worked part-time jobs in Baton Rouge, including the Arts
Council, LSU museum at the Shaw Center, and the La. Arts and Science Center.
As I continued to search for more substantial employment, I was made aware
of a position for an art teacher at Zachary High, I was excited to interview
for it and here I am.
I love passing on information and observing how the students process it. It
gives me great joy to be a part of the shaping the way the student perceives
and experience the world around them.
The Mission of this ArtI class is to develop skills, understanding, and the
oppurtunity to explore the elements of art through hands on activities that
expands their personal creativity.
