I graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in 1976 with a Bachelor of
Science Degree in Physics. While in the Coast Guard I was assigned to 5
different ships, serving 8 years at sea. I commanded two Coast Guard cutters.
I served at several shore assignments including two at the Coast Guard
Research and Development Center. I also earned my Master of Science Degree in
Physics while in the Coast Guard. I began teaching high school in 1999,
shortly after retiring from the Coast Guard. From 2001 to 2004 I taught in the
mathematics department at CHS. In 2004 I entered the field of informal science
education when I became the Education & Outreach Leader at a Louisiana-based
physics research lab, directing their Science Education Center operations. In
2008, I returned to CHS - this time in the Science Department where I
currently teach Physical Science.
Our overall aim is to be science literate in the fields of chemistry and
physics in order to better understand scientific issues that confront our
nation and be better prepared to participate knowledgeably in our democracy.
We will use the Louisiana Comprehensive Curriculum for Physical Science to
guide our science learning efforts.
