Dear Parents/Guardians,
Welcome to second grade. This year will be filled with many spiritual and
academic learning activities. Your child will grow spiritually as he/she
will prepare to receive the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist.
Second grade will provide you a great opportunity to become involved in your
child’s spiritual and academic life.
I am looking forward to working with you and your child. Together, we can
make this a happy and successful school year.
Homework
Spelling: Each unit consists of ten words and one bonus word.
Monday: Write five sentences with words 1 – 5.
Tuesday: Write five sentences with words 6 – 10.
Wednesday: Put words 1 – 10 in ABC order.
Thursday: Spelling Test.
Math: Your child will occasionally have a math worksheet to complete. A
timed facts test will be given every Wednesday. A facts sheet will be
placed into their homework folder to study from.
Reading: A workbook page will be assigned throughout the week. Please
leave pages attached in the workbook. Reading tests will be given on
Fridays. A skills test will be given at the end of each unit.
Grammar: A worksheet will be given as reinforcement during the week.
Science/Social Studies: These subjects will rotate throughout a nine week
period. Homework will mostly consist of small projects.
Assignments: Your child will copy their own assignment in the morning. You
are responsible for signing the assignment each day. Test dates will be
posted on the assignment at least a week in advance. Please feel free to
write me notes in the assignment if needed.

Discipline
I firmly believe that life-long success depends on self discipline, so I
will enforce a plan that allows each student to manage his/her own
behavior. If a student breaks a rule, he/she will have to sign the conduct
book. At the end of the week, the grades will be averaged for a weekly
conduct grade. Each child will receive a sticker book. Stickers are given
for good behavior, good deeds, positive manners, etc. For every 10
stickers, the child is rewarded.
Every Tuesday a packet containing test papers from the previous week, as
well as a conduct card, will be sent home. Students are to make corrections
on the test and parents are to sign the conduct card. The packets must be
returned by Thursday.
Book Reports
There will be a total of four book reports for the school year. The
following are tentative dates:
September 9th March 2nd
December 2nd May 11th
The children will present their book reports orally, a visual project will
need to accompany the reports, and a rubric will be sent home at a later
date. Creativity is highly encouraged.
Heading
The following heading must appear on any work completed on loose-leaf.
