5th Grade- General Procedures
Beginning of the Day: Students come in, check in & order lunch with clothes pin, and unpack
their backpacks. We begin in each day by saying our morning prayer, our mission statement and
the pledge. Before switching classes at 8:00, we take roll, complete the lunch count, and
collect lunch money or other notes. Lunch money should be brought in an envelope with the
student’s name, homeroom teacher, lunch number, and what account the money is to be used for
(ex. extra sales).
Recess: Both fifth grade classes go to recess at the same time. Recess is usually . Students
may use the restroom during this time. If it is too hot or raining, we have indoor recess where
we allow the students to play games, read, draw, or we will watch a video. Both teachers remain
with the students during recess.
Lunch: We go to lunch from recess. Students do not have assigned seats at lunch. Two student
are assigned cafeteria duty. They will clean the tables after lunch. After returning to the
classroom, we take a restroom break. Both teachers have lunch duty every day.
Restroom Breaks: We allow a restroom break at switch time (about 10:15 most days). Ms. Bernard
stands in the hallway by the restrooms, and Mrs. Redmond monitors the students in the
classroom. The students have a restroom break following lunch after we return to the
classroom. We let students go to the restroom at other times during the day unless we feel they
are abusing the privilege.
Lining Up: We line up by rows in Mrs. Redmond's class. The rows are numbered 1, 2, 3, & 4.
We line up by group in Ms. Bernard’s class. Each group has a name.
Tubs: The students keep their supplies and books in tubs in tubs in the back of the room. The
students go to their tubs in the morning, at switch time, and before packing to go home.
Afternoon Dismissal: At 2:55, we allow the students to pack, go to their
tubs, and get their backpacks. We pray before dismissing, and dismiss after
the second bell at 3:05.
Student Folders: We send home weekly folders with their graded papers. The folders need to be
signed and returned the next day.
Conduct Cards: Each homeroom has a binder with the conduct cards for that class. The binder
needs to be taken to their switch class and brought back. See the consequences section below.
