RULES FOR TEACHERS 100 YEARS AGO

·To wear at least two petticoats.

·Never to wear dresses that were more than two inches above her ankles.

·To wear dark-colored clothes.

·Never to dye her hair.

·To be at home from 8 o'clock at night until 6 o'clock in the morning, unless she were at a school meeting.

·To get a good night's sleep every night.

·Not to stay downtown in ice cream parlors too long.

·Not to go out with men.

·Never to get married.

·To sweep the schoolroom floor every day.

·To scrub the schoolroom floor weekly.

·To start a fire in the schoolhouse every morning so the room would be warm when the children arrived.

Interesting Facts:

·There was NO Scotch tape, crossword puzzles, or crayons

·1 in 10 adults in theU.S.couldn't read or write.

·6% graduated from high school.

·18% had at least one full-time servant.

·The life expectancy in theU.S.was 47.

·4% had bathtubs.

·8% had phones.

·There were 8,000 cars with only 144 miles of paved roads.

·The maximum speed was 10 miles per hour.

·95% of the births took place at home.

·90% of the physicians had NO college education.

·Most women only washed their hair once a month and they used borax or egg whites for shampoo.

·The American Flag had 45 stars.
(Arizona, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Hawaii and Alaska hadn't been admitted as states.)

·The bathroom was called a "water closet".
