Information

Important Information for Parents from Room 14

Absences:

If your child is absent, you must send a note to the school when

he/she returns.  Please include your child’s first and last name,

teacher’s name, date of absence, and the reason for the absence. All notes

must be signed by a parent or guardian. These notes are kept in the

student’s permanent folder in the office.

 Attendance:

Regular school attendance is essential for your child to

progress in school, both academically and socially. Please make every

effort to have your child at school everyday.

School hours:8:30AM (Arrival)   2:38 PM (Dismissal)

Birthdays:

Birthdays are special occasions for young children. I recognize each child's birthday with a birthday

crown and we sing the "Happy Birthday" song and the birthday child is my special helper throughout

the day. We celebrate the summer birthdays during the month of June. We have children who have

food allergies so please, do not send in any kind of food. Party invitations may be passed out at school,

ONLY if everyone in the class is invited to the birthday party. This keeps a child from feeling left out.

Changes in Transportation:

If you plan to pick up a child that normally rides the bus or someone other than

yourself is taking your child home you must send a written note or contact

the office at 413- 594-3425.  Do not rely on your child to tell us this

information, because children forget to tell us or they relay the

information incorrectly. If no written note or phone call is received,

your child will be sent home by his/her usual method of transportation.

HOMEWORK: Follow the directions on the weekly newsletter and do the following activities.

SEPTEMBER - OCTOBER

Have your child practice writing his/her first and last name. Write the first letter with a capital letter and

the rest with lower case. Have your child practice naming the letters of the alphabet. Your child should

be able to name the upper (capital) and lower case letters of the alphabet even when they are presented

out of alphabetical order.

NOVEMBER - DECEMBER

Read to your child for 10-15 minutes each day. As you read to your child talk about who the characters

are in the story, where the story takes place and what the problem is in the story...and how it gets solved.

Then have your child retell the story in his/her own words.

        the envelope.

Parent/ Teacher Conferences:

Please wait until after November 1st to schedule a conference. I am

available Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday. We can meet at 8:05AM or

2:45PM. Please call me at 413-594-3425 (ext.114) to request a conference.

You can also e-mail me or send a note in with your child.

      My e-mail address:    cjacques@chicopee.k12.ma.us

Show n'Tell:

We will begin show n’ tell in January.  Children will be assigned a specific week to

bring in their one item for show n' tell. Each child’s show n’tell object should be something

that relates to the current theme in reading or it can relate to the current month, holiday

or season of the year.

Each child will orally give 3 clues about what they have hidden in their backpacks and

the class will try to guess what it is. Please help your child to find an object that relates to

our theme, etc. Children should practice talking about their show n’ tell object by giving

clues aloud in front of their family.

Please do not send in pets, weapons, toy guns, video games, anything of great value

or that can’t be replaced.  Kindergarteners try to be careful, but some things do get lost

or broken so help your child to choose his/her object carefully.

Each child should be able to speak clearly with adequate volume while they are

explaining or talking about the object they brought from home. Each child should also

try to be a good listener so that he/she may respond to the speaker by asking questions

or by telling the speaker what parts they liked the most about the show n’ tell and why

those parts were interesting.

School Work:

Please look in your child’s backpack each day.  We send all school news by

way of your child in your child’s GREEN HOME/SCHOOL COMMUNICATION FOLDER.

These folders will come home daily and are to be sent back to school each day.

Please use the blue communication folder to return all notes, money and other important

      papers back to me.
