Can I make up work?
YES! You are sent to Cafe Ketchup the day the work
is due.
If it still isn't turned in or you skip Cafe Ketchup, you
attend the next available after
school detention to make it up.
IT IS UP TO THE STUDENT TO GET ANY MAKEUP WORK
WHEN HE/SHE IS ABSENT from the WORK FOLDER
A detention will be issued for any 3 missing assignments and a parent notified after 6 missing assignments.
Will there be loss of credit for late assignments?
No. However, the student does lose the ability to get the best grades possible in activities, quizzes , etc. and the lack of effort in missing assignments will be noticeable in his/her grade.
Is there loss of credit for not participating in games or activities?
Absolutely! The activities are a form of assessment and review
and impact
your learning. You will recieve a 0 classwork grade if you do not
participate.
Classwork is 30% of your entire grade.
What is the ASSIGNMENT SHEET?
Each student keeps tracks of his/her assignments, grades, and
points towards
prizes earned on the Assignment Sheet. No points will count towards a prize UNLESS the
Assignment
Sheet is COMPLETE.
How many points earn a prize?
500 points earn a prize of a snack treat, a bellamy buck,
or a ticket for the end of term
lottery for a Friendly's ice cream cup.
How do I earn points?
Many of the activities we do in class to encourage your
mathematical
thinking are awarded points based on your participation and
responses. The
points vary but you will know the point value at the start of
each activity.
What is the END OF TERM PRIZE LOTTERY?
At the end of the term, I will choose 3 names from each class and they will receive a Friendly's ice
cream cup to eat at lunch time.
Can parents keep in contact?
PLEASE! It is very beneficial to the students to have
parent/teacher contact. You can click on the e-
mail ICON on this site to send a message to me anytime.
Why do the students go to the computer lab regularly?
The internet offers a wide variety of learning materials. The
activities the
students are asked to explore are specific to the unit being
studied and
serve as a review of the material in ways the students may
identify with as
part of our theme of DIFFERENTIATED INSTRUCTION. All students are
asked to
keep a computer log and will lose computer privileges if their
log is not
kept, if they have not completed the required written work or
class
activities, or have misbehaved in class.
Why does a student lose computer lab privileges?
The computer lab is meant as a review and assessment for material
learned.
If a student has not completed his/her work, he/she will complete
that work
instead of working on the computer. If a student interrupts the
learning
process of our class by misbehaving, he/she will also lose
computer
privileges and will do written work instead.
What are the rules of class?
RESPECT for yourselves, each other, and me.
Show COURTESY for learning by being quiet to let people learn and
giving your best effort in all that
we do.
Be KIND always to everyone.
Take RESPONSIBILITY for your actions, your words, your work and
your behavior
Know your responsibilities to yourself and the class and do your best to uphold them.
How is discipline handled?
Students will get a first warning when they are disrupting the
learning
process.
2nd Warning - a red sign with an attached detention slip to serve as a reminder they are one
warning away from detention. Someone at home will be notified about detention.
The third time a student is warned, the student receives detention and a phone call home.
A student will be immediately removed for threats to himself or others, swearing, or any other
behaviors that endanger the class.
Are there behaviors that will result in immediate removal with no warnings?
YES! Swearing at me or another student, sexual harrassment that
includes
offensive words or gestures, touching another person, or
threatening anyone
in class in any way.
Can a student use the bathroom?
Yes but they must sign out and fill out the sign out sheet
COMPLETELY and
They may only leave math class twice in a week. They are expected
to use the
bathroom during homeroom and at lunch so that first period and
fifth period
they will only be allowed to use the bathroom if it is an
emergency.
Is talking allowed in small group work?
Of course, the point is to help each other to learn. HOWEVER,
voices must be
library voices so that ONLY your group hears you and talking
should be about
the learning. It is NOT social time.
How is the learning set up?
Class starts with an Activator which gets the students thinking
and settled down. We will discuss the activator.
We will meet in whole group and review the agenda and introduce
any topics or answer
questions.
Then we break into groups of some sort.
We will end our math day back in whole group and the students
will have some sort of summary
task to be sure they comprehended or have an opportunity to
express what they did not
comprehend.
We will have open discussion and evaluation in whole group so I can assess your student and he/she can assess themnselves.
How can my student know how they are doing?
Encourage the to complete their assigement sheets.
I also post their grades once a week and the grades are on IPASS .
