When can my child stay for extra help?

On Thursday afternoons from 3-4pm, I am available for any student
with
questions about the week's objectives, makeup work,
notebook help or project fair questions. I do ask that students sign up by
Wednesday so that I will know how many students will be attending.

Can my child pass in late work?

I always encourage students to make up homework
assignments that are missed as they are required for the Working Portfolio
assessment. Worksheets that are reviewed in class may not be submitted for
credit- as the answers have been given in class. Extended homework
assignments-graphs, labs, discussion questions may be passed in late after
classroom discussion but will be graded accordingly. STUDENTS WHO HABITUALLY
TURN IN LATE HOMEWORK WILL NOT BE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY- IE. ALL
HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS FOR THE CYCLE
CANNOT BE TURNED IN 1 WEEK PRIOR TO PROGRESS REPORTS.

Can low test grades be make up? Quizzes?

Because study guides are given for tests
I DO NOT allow tests to be made up. Failing Quizzes require an afterschool
(Tuesday) review and remediation session. Additional questions are given
and the score can be raised to a passing 65.

Homework- What is the purpose and how much is too much?

Science homework is given to complete or extend the activities from class.
Therefore, it may not be given every evening and is difficult to forcast
ahead of time. I will try to limit homework assignments so that
students will not have more than 1-1.5 hours total at night. If the
students
are working up to 2 hrs-please stop them at 1.5 and write a note so that the
work can be modified.

Where can students get more information on the topics covered in class?

Internet resources will be provided to students in class (SciLinks) and will
be posted on the Links section of this web page. Textbook chapters are
assigned to students to further their understanding of the concepts
discussed.
