Enrichment Activities Extra Credit

Extra Credit Assignments: Try any or all! We will determine how to best use
the "extra credit" when you return to school based on the amount of
work/effort expended on the assignment. Have Fun!

1. Try to make a fresh egg float in water. You may modify the water but
should not modify the egg. Take a picture, a video or do a write-up. Good
Luck!

2. Illustrate how atoms form bonds. Be sure to include details about ionic
covanlent and metallic bonds- found in chapter 13. This can be a poster, a
comic strip, a rap song, or a model.

3. Try these Element Riddles. Then make up one of your own.
I look like a metal but flow like a liquid,
I'm deadly to humans but they keep me around,
Not as dense as gold but shiny like silver,
I'm always up when you're feeling down.

Shunned by most and craved by all,
Food for rabbits, made from straw,
Billions found greed and abandoned sense,
though not a fool, I am quite dense.

People use me to keep things hot or cold,
You can shape me into any mold,
My atomic number is evil if on the right day,
I can recycle in the right way.

I am part of all that lives,
When combined with oxygen, I make the "fizz",
Wear me on your finger or use me to write,
in one of my forms, my name is graphite.

Your own creation! Write an original riddle. Include an explanation of each
phrase used. Any element is fair game! Have Fun!

4. Kaboom! Fireworks element chart. (reviewed in class)

5. Check out a youtube video or google site to help me figure out how to
make oobleck "dance" on a speaker. We have the CD player and the stereo
speaker but we can't seem to make it work. . . HELP!!!
