Today we took our Wows and Unit Conversion Assessments. We will be starting physics next week.
No Homework this weekend!
Thursday-2/9
Today we corrected our Unit Conversion practice problems, in preparation for our assessment tomorrow. We also used our qnotes to see how well we comprehended our reading chapter. Finally, we worked together to finish the Polymer Lab questions, which will be used to complete a practice formal lab report next week.
Homework-

Wednesday-2/8
Today we completed our Polymer Exploration. We created our own recipe synthetic slime and then experimented with oobleck- a polymer of corn starch. Tomorrow, we will correct our Qnotes and correct our Unit Conversion practice sheets.

Tuesday- 2/7
Today we culminated our Chemistry Unit by Exploring Polymers! We created slime using a specific ratio of chemicals. Tomorrow we will determine, using the properties of PVA and Borate ions, how much of each chemical we will use in order to maximize the "slimeness".

Monday-2/6
Today we continued our work on Factor unit conversions. We took our wows Immunity challenge for Unit 5.

Friday-2/3
Today we worked on an "Almost Freshmen Lesson". We are beginning a lesson on Unit conversions-as we will be working with many formulas when we start physics. We took some time, mass, length, and volume measurements and then practice using conversion methods X--------. We will continue on Monday. Congratulations Olivia G for being the first Khan Klassmate Lottery Winner!

Today we did a followup activity/cartoon analysis for our Octet Rules skit. We revised our tests and reviewed MCAS questions and strategies.

Today we corrected our Unit 4 Test and performed the "Octet Rules" Atom Dating game. Nice acting skills!!

Monday-1/30
Today we corrected our study guide for the Unit 4 assessment. We then formed 3 groups to review for the test- Khan Bonding Video, Clay models of neutral atoms/ ions/isotopes, and element jeopardy. Students joined the review group of their choice.

Use Study Guide to prepare for Unit 4 Summative Assessment. Multiple choice and open response questions will be the format.
Friday-
Using the Unit 4 "Cheat sheet "created from your summary notes, complete the study guide questions in preparation for the test on Tuesday, 1/31. We will play a review game on Monday and I will be afterschool on Monday, 1/30 for a Test study session.
Wednesday-
No homework-1/2 day- Math midterm.
Tuesday-
No homework tonight. Get a good night sleep for the midterm Math exam tomorrow. Remember to wear Black - for the Black Out Bullying day.
Monday-
Finish Directed Reading Chapter 16-Radioactivity
Friday-
No Homework!- Enjoy the snowstorm, make a snowman and drink a yummy solution-ie. hot cocoa :)
Thursday-
Today we completed our notes on atomic bonds and the periodic table- we played match.com and worked on our notebooks if there was time. Radioactive definition= see Tuesday -scroll down!
Even if there is a delay tomorrow- we will have wows quiz and I will check organization and cheat sheet completion.

Wednesday-
Today we reviewed the Notebook Midterm rubric. In order to prepare for midterm testing in high school, students are asked to organize their notes/assessments and create a "cheat sheet" of the most important concepts from each unit. We modeled how to accomplish this and allowed for time to begin organizing. We also discussed ions and atomic bonding-brainPOP!
Homework:
1. Wows Quiz Friday 1/20- List #3- word bank will be provided to all students- no spelling required.
2. Complete Working Portfolio checklist, "cheat sheet" and have organization overview signed. 20 question midterm will be all multiple choice and will be given in class on Friday, 1/20.
Tuesday-
Today we had a 2 hour delay- resulting in short classes. We took our last immunity challenge for Unit 4 and then we corrected our periodic table scavenger hunt worksheet.
Finally, we brainstormed what we THOUGHT radioactive meant. . . check out this website before Friday!

Organize Notes section and Assessment sections to be prepared for Open Notebook Midterm on Friday. Must have notes and assessments from Unit 1-4.
Wednesday-
Today we created a checklist of required Element project materials in our planner. Element Projects MUST be complete at the start of class on Friday. Any incomplete Project Packets will not be accepted and will be considered 2 days late on Tuesday, 1/17.
We continued exploring the relationships on the periodic table and corrected our Directed reading homework from Chapter 12- The Periodic Table.

Element Research Project- Level I or II Due on Lucky Friday 13th- (1/13/2012)-Due at start of class. All materials must be complete or it will not be accepted as on time. Any project passed in on Tuesday, 1/17 will be considered 2 days late- resulting in a 20 point penalty.
