WRAPPING UP CHAPTER 5 – SOME OPTIONS!
1.) PARTY PLANNER: You are to plan a party for at least the number of
students in your math class. You’ll need a menu, favors, etc. You are to
compare prices at no less than 3 stores for your materials. (Themes could
be, but not limited to: Superbowl, Mardi Gras, Olympics, Birthday…)
2.) SMART SHOPPER: You are to go on a shopping spree for whatever interests
you (clothes, computers, sports gear, etc.). Your budget is $1000. You’ll
need to compare prices at no less than 3 stores.
3.) FAVORITE RECIPE: You are to plan no less than 3 meals for your math
class. List of all ingredients, prices, etc. You are to compare prices at
no less than 3 grocery stores.
4.) SCALE MODEL OR DRAWING: You may use your favorite cartoon character or
other “school-appropriate” image to construct an enlargement…or build a model.
Related idea – make a poster comparing the different scales of model
trains, etc.
5.) CONSTRUCT A MAP (Using appropriate scale, of course!): This may be a
fictitious town (something from a book you’ve read, movie you’ve seen,
etc.). It could also be of your neighborhood, or even a city that you’ve
studied in Ancient Civilization (I’ll talk to Mrs. Ward and Mrs. Hall about
credit for her class too!)
6.) Report and/or Poster on other interesting RATIOS: The Golden Ratio
(art, architecture, nature), or Human Body
