Accelerated Reader

AR is short for Accelerated Reader. This is a computer program which tests
children's literal comprehension of stories. Children self select stories,
read them independently, and then take quizzes on the computer (usually
between 5 and 10 questions for each story). The program gives immediate
feedback in a score(#/5 or #/10), and if necessary, it provides correct
answers for incorrect responses.

Points are awarded for test scores. A perfect score gets full point value,
incorrect answers decreases points awarded. Children earn & collect AR cards
over the year.Cards are given at every 5 point marker.

Accelerated Reader is a terrific program which tracks comprehension results
over time.It provides information about reading levels, achievement, & effort
in independent reading.

I have stocked our classroom library with 100's of books at many different
reading levels for children to read. There are picture books, beginner chapter
books, popular series books, nonfiction, poetry books, and many, many more.

One way I have been able to provide so many resources is by parents purchasing
from Book Club orders. Our class earns points with every order, and I can
spend them on books for our classroom. Thanks to all who support our classroom
this way!

I provide AR reading time daily, and it is always a great choice for "fast
finishers". I believe the AR program is excellent for second graders, who are
eager to use their newly learned reading skills. It gives complete control to
the child. It is fascinating to watch fledging readers develop over the year!
