As a child, I was a student at the Chace Street School for grades one
through six. I am also a graduate of Somerset High School where I competed
on the gymnastics team for four years. One of my teammates was Mrs. Kelly,
our school secretary! I am a graduate of Bridgewater State College where I
was member of the gymnastics team for three years. This was a great
experience because we traveled to other states to compete.
My prior teaching experiences include: seven years as a preschool teacher at
the Somerset Children's Center and two years as a paraprofessional
in the Chace Street School preschool program. I am currently beginning my
fifteenth year as a Physical Education teacher at the Chace Street School.
For the past ten years I have also taught at South School where I
currently have two third grade classes.
I chose to become an elementary Physical Education teacher for several
reasons. First of all, I love working with children! The rewards are
enormous and their enthusiasm is contagious! Secondly, I am a kinesthetic
learner. I thoroughly understand how a child can learn through movement.
This is why I take every opportunity to integrate the core subjects
into my Physical Education lessons. Lastly, I hope to make a difference in
the lives of our young children by teaching them the lifelong benefits of
daily exercise and making healthy choices.
Finally, on a personal note: For the past twenty six years, I have spent
many long hours on the bleachers cheering my three daughters on as
they participated in softball, soccer, gymnastics, track and cheerleading!
They are now successful young women! I now also have a son-in-law who played
Division 1 baseball at URI for four years and continues to play in 3 summer
leagues! My husband is also an avid sports fan and a terrific baseball
player! My hobbies include photography, technology and doll collecting. I am
also a fan of the Boston Red Sox, the New England Patriots and all of the
Somerset High School sports teams!
A note to Parents and Guardians:
Please know that your children appreciate the hours you spend driving them
around to dance, sports practices and games. They speak to me often about
their games, practices, recitals, swim meets, etc. They proudly share with
me the news of testing for a new belt in martial arts, qualifying for
Nationals in cheerleading or winning a trophy. You are helping them develop
lifelong memories and healthy fitness habits.
1. To ensure the safety of ourselves and others by staying on task and
following the safety rules.
2. To improve our skill level. We want to be a little better at each skill
than we were yesterday.
3. To have fun! Physical activity is both FUN and GOOD FOR US!
