Does my child have to use his/her agenda book? Do I need to sign it?

Every student is REQUIRED to utilize their agenda book and a
homework folder
for each night of homework and long term planning. This practice
will foster
organizational skills that will be very valuable in the future. If
possible,
parents should sign their student's agenda book for at least the
first few
months of school until we can be sure that the students have
fallen into
this routine. I will be sure to do so each day, until students
become
accustomed to this practice.

Will students bring home tests/quizzes? Should I sign the tests/quizzes?

All tests and quizzes will be sent home ASAP. Please expect
corrected tests
and quizzes to come home shortly after they have been taken. All
tests in
all subjects below a 70 will need to be signed by an adult at home
and
returned to school. This will be a constant form of communication
between
you and I. Test/quiz scores below a 70 should also be returned
with
corrections on a separate piece of paper for credit. Students may
need
their parent's help for this process if possible. I am also
available to
help after Lunch on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. All
corrected tests and
quizzes
should then be stored in the appropriate three-ring binder for the
term.

What is your homework policy?

Homework assignments will be posted daily in class on the homework
board and
updated on our website whenever possible. Grade 5 students will be
given
homework each night that is directly related to what we have done
in class
on that day. Therefore, it is essential that all students complete
this
homework which serves as a review and extra practice each night,
on time and
showing their best effort. Students are expected to complete all
math
homework in pencil. Homework that is passed in late or incomplete
will not
receive full credit. After one to three missed homework
assignments, a
notice will be made in the student's planner and should be signed
and returned with all missing work.

Do you offer extra help?

Extra help is offered to anyone who would like every Tuesday,
Wednesday, and
Thursday during the block after lunch/recess. Additional extra help
can be
determined by a case-to-case basis.

What is the policy on make-up work?

All make-up work will be compiled by an absentee buddy for my
homeroom. This
make-up work can be sent home on the day of the absence, upon
request to the
school.
Otherwise, students will receive make-up work upon their return to
school.
It is the student's responsibility to make-up all class work,
homework,
quizzes, and tests. Students should see me to check on all of the
work that they have missed while absent or receive extra help. For
more information on CMS's policy please consult the handbook.

Do you offer any Extra Credit or Enrichment opportunities?

Extra Credit online is offered each week in the form of the
Problem of the
Week. Students are asked to complete the problem, showing all of
their
work, by Friday. In class, if students have completed their class
work
assignments, enrichment/extra credit activities are always also
available.
Opportunities for extra credit and individual enrichment are also
available
in other subjects throughout the year.

Should my student keep all hole-punched papers in their binders?

All papers that are hole-punched should be kept in each subject
three-ring
binder until the end of each quarter. This includes Math Study Link
Homework, Corrected Quizzes and Tests, and various
handouts/worksheets.
