Current Events

SCIENCE OLYMPIAD: Practices are held on Mondays (3-4:30pm) and Tuesdays (3-4pm) every week.  Make sure to be there- only 5 weeks left before the State Competition!  If a student is unable to come on their day, they should attend the other practice- remember: your teammates are counting on you!

**Reminder: Any student earning a 70% or lower on a test or project is required to get it signed by a parent, and return it to class the next class period.


5TH GRADE:
         Classes are working on their Simple Machines unit.  We are discussing the "Big 6" machines, plus gears, and completing lab stations on all.  Students are completing the Simple Machines Study Guide thoughout, to use for their test.  Blank Guides are in the Notes/ Study Guides section, as are some Simple Machine definitions.
           Some classes have their Simple Machines Test next week.  A completed version of the Study Guide is available in the Notes/ Study Guides section for students to check their own against if needed.  (Study Guide is gone over in class the week before the test.)

      Tuesday- 2/6/12              Friday- TBA

6TH GRADE:
Students are completing their Futuristic Vehicle Power Point Project.  They will present their Power Points to the class starting the week following their due date.  The Transportation Subsystems test will be the week after presentations are completed.

Monday- 2/6                  Thursday- 1/26
Tuesday- 1/31                  Friday- 2/3

7TH GRADE:
         7th graders working on their Bridges unit.  This is an extensive unit  that begins with the physical forces acting on structures, and culminates in the students designing, drawing, and building a bridge of their own.  
            Blank Structural Engineering Notes and the Bridges Smartboard notes are in the Notes/ Study Guides section.  Completed Structural Engineering Notes will be available prior to the test.

8TH GRADE:
      The Mousetrap Racer project, which melds Engineering, Manufacturing, and Physics is in full swing.  Students are using the Engineering Design Process for their Racers, and the Manufacturing Process as well.  Project packet and rubric are in the Notes/ Study Guides section.
        
***Extra credit! Students can bring in CDs/DVDs for use as wheels on the mousetrap racer project and earn extra credit.  ***
