How can I help my child at home?
One great thing you can do is help with a home routine. Once your child comes
home in the afternoon, it is important to check their backpack for notes,
homework assignments, etc.
It is also important that your child come to school each morning prepared for
the day. They will need their school work, notes for me, a snack, and a lunch
or lunch ticket. If your is buying lunch it is EXTREMELY helpful that they
have ALREADY read the menu with you and know what they will be 'signing-up'
for. They mark their choice independently indicating H1 (hot lunch#1), H2 (hot lunch#2), BY (bagel
and yogurt), SA (salad), SBJ (Sunbutter and jelly sandwich), or X (not buying today).
Ask questions! Each night ask your child questions about their day. Instead
of, "How was your day?" use specific questions that may give you a more direct
answer than, "Fine". Perhaps you can ask what the math work was, what activity
they did at the Special, their favorite character from the book they are
reading, who their Worldly Partner was, etc.
ALSO, please DO NOT HESITATE to ask me questions should you have concerns or
are unsure. I can be contacted by voice mail 978-887-2856 ext 215 or email:
tpuglisi@boxfordschools.org
How can I contact you?
There are three easy ways to contact me:
* voice mail at 978-887-2856 extension 215
* email at tpuglisi@boxfordschools.org
* send a note in your child's School-Home Folder
What happens if my child forgets a snack?
We have a snack basket in the classroom. Your child may select a snack from
the basket. They will then come home with a reminder note to bring in a
pre-packaged, pre-wrapped snack for the basket.
How much homework will my child have?
I adhere to the Boxford Schools Handbook Homework policy for Grade 2, which
states: “Students will usually be assigned homework 3 to 4 times per week.
Assignments should be limited to 15 to 20 minutes in length. Students are
expected to read each night for 20 minutes minimum in addition to the assigned
homework. Continuous review of basic math facts is required.”
Will my child have homework on weekends?
Your child will not have regular weekend homework. If there is a project that
has an extended due date, your child may choose to work on the project on a
weekend.
WEEKEND JOURNALS will come home most weekends, starting mid to end of
September. It is your child's responsibility to bring the journal to you, have
you read what was written to you, then remind you to write back to them (every
weekend). Your child then needs to make sure the journal gets into their
backpack for Monday morning.
Can I volunteer in the classroom?
Yes, parent volunteers are welcome in the classroom. More information will be
given at Parent Seminar. Please know that you will need to fill out a
Confidentiality Form and you will be held to the terms of the form, or you
will not be allowed to volunteer in the classroom. You will need to have a
CORI check through the main office as well.
If you are unable to commit to coming into the classroom, I have At-Home
helpers too.
What is the dress code?
Refer to the Boxford School Handbook for specific regulations. However, please
note your child will need sneakers for Physical Education and project ready
clothes for Art. Our classroom tends to get very hot, so dressing in layers is
the best bet. Your child is allowed to bring a water bottle to school each day
and leave it at their desk. Please keep in mind we do go out to recess daily
and we live in New England, so watch the weather forecasts and send labeled
rain/snow gear as appropriate.
Can my child celebrate his/her birthday in the classroom?
We will honor each birthday with a special birthday song and a birthday
pencil. Birthday food treats are not a part of our classroom celebrations. If
you wish to send in a tangible treat (sticker, pencil, book mark, etc) for all
class members, that would be fine. You may also choose to donate a book to our
class or school library in their honor.
